My personal view of Intergalactic is this:
It is a videogame. But they didn't show us a gameplay. I can't neither say Intergaltic is a good or bad videogame if I don't have a gameplay to judge and compare.
NOTE
If done as a TV series, like Arcane, this would look bloody good;
And yes, The Last of Us did the same. They released a trailer before a gameplay. But that was survival/suspense game
This is an action videogame. The bread and butter of action videogames is gameplay. Until Naughty Dogs releases a gameplay trailer, I reserve my thoughs.
The head-shaving is probably a Buddhist-monk type aesthetic.
The story's about a religion ("heretical prophet"), and they opened with a Thai-inspired language (Thailand is majority Buddhist) talking about a scripture. AND that destroyed moon forms a Yin-Yang "☯️", you can see another one in the clouds on that planet.
So I wouldn't be surprised if that's one reason, as well as the designers just wanting an androgynous protagonist.
Great analysis of the trailer one aspect of her having shaved her head that many have not noticed , Is that many Sci Fi stories depect everyon in space shaving their heads. Especially Women to keep it form floating around in zero g and to lower the incidence of loose hairs clogging air filter etc. I too love the 80's Vibe and aesthetics, I honestly look forward to this game being released.

Bonjour je vis en Suisse à Genève et c'est la première vidéo qui analyse de façon artistique comme le ferait un artiste qui analyse une œuvre et c'est exactement se qu'il faut faire car les jeux ND sont construits comme ça très cinématographique artistique rien n'est choisi ou placé par hasard chaque seconde de la vidéo est calculé pour nous diriger vers se qu'ils veulent nous montré et presque toutes les 10 à 5 secondes ont pour prendre une photo tellement la composition est bien construite je suis fasciné par leurs travail remarquable j'ai très hâte de voir la suite ! The eye patch is inspired by Kurt Russel's character in "Escape from New York" trust me. It's not official but I guarantee you it is. It's also a 80s movie, cyberpunkish vibes, and it influenced the look of big boss in MGS. Confirmed by kojima. Last of us 2 took inspiration from mgsv2 and phantom pain, so I just know Neil got it from there.

It doesn't need to be a beaty contest but it is a fact that the most popular artist are visually appealing for the vast majority of consumers.
Look at the most successful marvel movies all characters look amazing and visually stunning, while this character looks gender ambiguous on purpose(this is not a bad thing but this is for niche and small demographics and make profit in proportion with it)
For the people who say that it doesn't matter how the character looks let me remind all of you the largest portion of profit from games comes from cosmetics and visual dlc and how the character can look better ( look at overwatch most skins that sell are cool looking skins or sexy skins )
SEX APPEAL sells in everything
The fact that Naughty Dog disabled the comments on the trailer, tells you everything you need to know!
Before watching. I knows anyone who look deep will notice these:
-shaving is her routine
-the room is messy but there's an investigation chart so she has a goal and she ignore anything else
-the conversations shows she's a daredevil and doesn't care what others said
-that also reflect on her appearance of no makeup and not care for hair styling
-yet she has her style of enjoying things that has the 90s style
-and must mentioning the top notch facial animations or performance capture. It's so perfect. Means they're not joking around for story telling by using human expression.
-a lot of brand names came up. They has to spend some money on these.
I genuinely keep coming to this teaser/trailer…Almost hypnotic…😮
if there's a minority report style racing in there, like the scene were they fighting on flying cars, that would be bonkers…

I just wanna say I just do not vibe with the urban streetwear aesthetic for space sci fi (great for urban sci fi)
the Puffy jacket feels so contemporary that it makes the entire outfit feel so uninteresting, it doesn't draw my attention.

There is such a saturation of character designs like this on the market that giving her no face at all would make her stand out more than beeing any person
Everyone has seen Akira, character designs inspired by Akira are a dime a dozen.
Which fucking sucks because I love South-East Asian representation in my media. We need more of that and having it in a big ticket game like this is so fucking big.
So her outfit beeing run of the mill and nothing about the design grabbing my attention just makes me not want to play the game, she doesn't have the IT factor that a company like Naughty Dog usually manages to put out

She has a little pouch on her back and those light-up sneakers but unless the sneakers literally have like movement trails that are integral to the combat system I don't think there is anything interesting that is going to be going on

I could get a similar gameplay experience and character look in a hundred indie games for an 8th of the price and that's not the takeaway I want from this
The game problably has cosmetics and outfits, but this is their foot forward on this, the big thing to make me want to play their game so it is a shame it looks so… welll… unoriginal?

Its not about the hair, its about the face. This is not an isolated incident, this is the latest in a long line of altering the faces of women in games. Go look at the human model for this character thats all you need to see.
Haven’t started watching the video yet, but as someone who definitely hates when characters are particularly unattractive for no reason etc I see no issue with anything shown character wise. Sure her appearance does not appeal to me but it doesn’t offend me either. The character didn’t come off as unlikable like most characters now days that are both unlikeable AND un attractive. Likability matters the most, as long as she isn’t an arrogant snarky asshole its fine. She just comes off as no bs knows what she wants and acts accordingly without being offensive for no reason.
The design of the interior of the ship has big Syd Mead vibes (white panels with rounded edges, big square buttons, geometric shapes, primary colors, etc)
It reinforces that late 70's to early 90's sci-fi style (2001, Alien, Blade runner…)
yes bro. finally. its not a beauty pageant . Im a character artist , and very rarely does "attractiveness" play a part in the actual design. Interest, balance, intruige. Sexy is like a cheap win. I genuinely find this charcter design more interesting! To me, this had it all. Awesome unbiased take, first person ive seen focus on the actual story points. Nice bro!

Great analysis. On rewatches of this trailer, I picked up on similar aspects of the character. It actually makes me even more hopeful about the game. Because the trailer is already aesthetically drowning in references and homages, I was a little underwhelmed that the character itself looked to be fitting just a prototypical badass bounty hunter archetype, but I think there is a lot more going on to her and the story than just that.
I adore Naughty Dog games and feel they have some of the best writing in the industry, so I was thirsting for a little bit more of their own unique twist on such familiar Sci-Fi stuff. Some of the hints that this new persona we're seeing may be a bit of a change in character makes me even more interested in that shift of who this character was before this moment and how that'll make the story even richer.
Genuine breath of fresh air! A really great analysis as always – excited to learn more about this game I think there is going to be so much to analyse when this game launches.
to me feels like they just copied one of the most cool and interesting pieces of media of the century just to get view. the character sounds like a rugged wanna be cowboy bebop but lives in a luxury ship(porche) and ends up being very cringe.

I’m sure Concord was a shitty ah game, but this trailer other than the character looking woke it looks promising. I think we should wait to see if the game sucks or not when its out rather than judging so much for a short teaser

For me the way she is written and her personality is annoying. Clearly her agent cares about her and her wellbeing but she treats her like trash and doesn't even acknowledge that, which makes her come of as entitled and a brat.
I will admit that we know very little about this challenge so maybe her personality is ultimately likeable and I'm about to get on board with her motivation and why she's doing what she's doing.
For right now, the Naughty Dog name is doing a lot of heavy lifting.

I really love the vibe of this game. I love the music. I love that it's inspired by Akira and Cowboy Beebop. I will admit that I dont particularly like the look of the protagonist, but it's not enough to turn me off the game entirely, and I definitely think I'll be playing this game once it gets released.
Its so jarring to see real people in fantasy games, real people are ugly

Naughty Dog's characters got so realistic now that calling one of them "badly design" makes no sense, it's like seeing a human being on the street and calling them poorly designed ??? They are making human characters that look and feel human. Most of the criticism is just anti-woke dudebros that hate seeing powerful women that aren't made for their enjoyment.
“I do not care about how the character looks, but how he behaves in the frame, his emotions, facial expressions, intonation, motivation, what drives him” bro says so obvious things that in today's time for many will be a revelation, thank you!
Im a sucker for music and the music beat is what got me to look at the teaser. I heard the music from the other room and came running.
As far as what's in the teaser; it looks intriguing. She's got a search board and she is willing to put her life in danger to find someone. Did they betray her or do they have something she needs? I want to know. My media world revolves around anime and manga so the aesthetics are pleasing, but I'm not high maintenance when it comes to things like that. I hope the story is rich. I'll probably play for that along with the music. NIN is one my favorite bands. Looks great so far. Going on my list.

love the tech and artwork of the world, but because of the repulsive main character, i am completely uninterested in this game, in fact i hate it. P.s. the motivation behind shaving her head obviously is because she has a severely receding hairline for a woman. Also, you don't have to have a sexy or good looking character for the main character, but you must have a cool looking character for a main character so that the player feels cool. the character in this trailer fails at being cool, she in fact is very uncool and repulsive in looks and in personality.
