The Mario movie was definitely the biggest disappointment of my childhood, but Paul W. S. Anderson's rape of the R.E. franchise and inserting his wife as central focus was an abomination too. Alot of names and appearances are similar, but little else has anything to do with the story of the games.
Ah, the early 90's.
That whimsical time, long before Uwe Boll took a giant deuce all over cinema at large. Paul Anderson had yet to emerge and cock up everything fun or memorable about Resident Evil so he could shoe horn his wife in arbitrarily and keep her career afloat and THIS was still the worst video game based movie ever made.
Those were the days.
Mortal Kombat was a really solid adaptation. Mortal Kombat Annihilation can go get stuffed.
Both the Super Mario Bros movie and Street Fighter movie kind of ruined me for the video game to movie experience, but I enjoyed Mortal Kombat a lot. The less said about the sequel the better, but the original was probably one of my favorite movies.
The Super Mario Bros. movie was like one of those SyFy miniseries based on popular children's fantasy works like Tin Man, Alice or Neverland. It takes a well-known fantasy for all ages and just darkens and weirds it up beyond all reason.
"Where. The hell. Is Luigi's mustache?" – pretty much sums up this movie.
Admittedly not the best movie ever made, its still one of my favorite movies.
You know, I think this is probably the worst video game movie out there… at least the other turds in the cinema-punchbowl are all tangentially related to source material.
Oh, and stop trying to make "fetch" happen.
Ok really the princess with the gun is just epic! I don't remember most of the plot of the movie except for random scenes except when Peach comes walking in with the gun! Cos you are right, that would have solved so many problems.
Like maybe she would have defended herself instead of being kidnapped…AGAIN!

I think after this and the famous Mario and Zelda cartoons, Nintendo is very wary of bastardizing their characters in film. I'd love to see a Metroid film or a LoZ film. But I don't think Nintendo will ever agree to it. In 1993, Nintendo was earning more money than many nations… more than the entire movie industry. An Hollywood managed to take that momentum and produce one of the most maligned movies ever. Yeah… I think Nintendo probably has a very dim view of releasing their IP to film makers again…
yeah… I actually loved this movie when I was a kid. I didn't realize what good movies were when I was that young. and I still watch it from time to time, just for nostalgia. yeah, I realize I just lost most if not all of my geek cred….

I know its a massive departure from the game but i liked that world and a sequil would of been fun 🙂 think of it as if christopher nolan got his hands on mario bros if it makes it more exceptable, its what holland would call a film that is so good its bad also know as nostalga films
