This movie deserved the success. It was the ONLY movie, that my 4 year old was able to make it the whole way through in theaters. Puss n boots 2 and ninja turtles? Both failures.

Man I had a great time with this movie. You know who didn't? Shadiversity, the popular medieval weaponry youtuber. Wow is he showing his ass of late. It's a little funny, but mostly sad and tiring.

Speaking as someone who never liked the american cartoon show, the movie did exactly what it was supposed to. Just be as close to "The vanilla Super Mario Bros. setting and basic cast you know but with dialogue and in animated movie format". As just an animated movie it really has a subpar story when you think about it. We got far more interesting scripts from just about any notable animation from the last two or three decades. But the Mario universe has such an absurdly broad appeal that they never needed to do anything unnecessary to the writing and thankfully other than the family crap at the beginning (that if the movie removed, nothing would be lost, since the payoff was like 20 seconds long…) and the Illumination Studios typical generic pop song montages it had the exact same vibes you expect from the Mario games.
I still do not like Chris Pratt. I think he's one of those generic adventure white boys that Hollywood picks every 10 years to appear everywhere. I didn't watch the movie in English, as much as I can tell Jack Black and Charlie Day were well cast. I don't regret it, because the portuguese dub was great and they did their best to make the characters sound like they do in the games.
Junt (if I am hearing the name right) fits so naturally with you guys, maybe its cause he just gives off good vibes. When going through your old stuff the third man usually doesnt flow as nice imo but this the second clip with him and it just works. Speaking of things in your past I am glad you changed from the camera back and forth set up to the everyone on screen at one time.
6:08 – The exact stuff, the only stuff, i was interested in how they might pull this off. Lost me completely for not trying something 1993-esque, but good. Let's not celebrate video game movies for totally turning everything up-side-down BECAUSE adaptation, that's perfectly understandable, but let's not celebrate movies for staying 100% safe either okay. There is no cinematic experience if there is no surprise. But that's just me it seems.
Mario wasn't important from Peach's perspective though, he needed to save his brother, and had to convince her to let him come so he could make sure that efforts would be directed in acomplishing that because it aligned with defeating King Koopa.
Its funny you say that because me and my group of 28 year old friends went to go see this together. We had a lot of fun doing it.
I hope if we get a sequel or some kind of followup we get more of the Mario Bros on screen
I really enjoyed that I could bring my kid no questions and there wasn't anything I had to worry about.
Not to sound mushy or dramatic, but these kinds of movies just transport me right back to the same kind of place Disney movies or Power Rangers did when I was a kid. It's nice to just kind of forget the existential dread of adulthood and lose yourself to a good simple kid's movie and feel yourself going back to that magical space of childhood wonder and entertainment.

I picture 4 mario movies in total. Next one being a Super Mario World Movie, then a Mario Galaxy Movie finishing with a Mario Odyssey Movie. With the Success of Mario, it brings in the possibility of Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing and other properties becoming movies/tv series/shorts.
