Infinix Note 50x first impressions

After over three weeks of teasing, Infinix introduced the Infinix Note 50x as the fourth member of its Note 50 series. The smartphone comes in Sea Breeze Green, Enchanted Purple, and Titanium Grey colors, with the green model having a vegan leather back while the other two have a metallic finish. We spent some time with the green model, and here are our first impressions of the phone.

The Infinix Note 50x comes in a green-colored retail box, including a charging cable, a 45W power adapter, a SIM ejector tool, some documents, and a protective case of a similar shade.

We have a 6.67″ HD+ LCD on the front with a 120Hz refresh rate and 672 nits peak brightness. Infinix hasn’t advertised the glass it has used for screen protection, but it said you can operate the screen even when your hands are wet or greasy. There’s also an Always On Display option in the menu, but the AOD here is not always on like you’d expect from a phone with an AMOLED screen; the display here only shows information when you tap it.

The Note 50x’s display also has a centered punch-hole for the selfie camera. It’s an 8MP sensor with an f/2.0 aperture, 77.8° FOV, and can record videos in up to 1080p resolution at 30 fps. There’s also a flash with adjustable brightness on the bezel on the right side of the front camera for better selfies in low-light conditions.

At the back, we have an octagonal “Gem-Cut” camera island “inspired by the elegance of an emerald and the dynamic beauty of a kaleidoscope.” This module houses an LED flash, joined by a 50MP primary camera, an IR blaster, and an AI Lens, which, Infinix told us, is a “depth sensor equivalent.”

The camera island also houses Active Halo Lighting that lights up for app notifications and missed calls. It also glows when the phone is charging, you start a game, or the Folax AI-based voice assistant is summoned. Additionally, it works as a countdown timer when clicking photos or recording videos.

Circling back to the primary camera, the 50MP unit has f/1.6 aperture, 75.5° FOV, and can record 4K videos at up to 30 fps.

The rear panel of our Sea Breeze Green model has a vegan leather finish. It’s soft, has a decent in-hand feel, and won’t get fingerprint smudges. However, the panel is flat, which could make the Infinix Note 50x less ergonomic for some.

The Infinix Note 50x has flat frames with a matte finish. The left-side frame features the hybrid SIM card slot, with the volume rocker and power button – having decent feedback – on the opposite side. The power button doubles up as a fingerprint scanner, and we found it to be fast and accurate during the short time we spent with the phone.

At the bottom is the USB-C port, flanked by the microphone and a speaker grille. Up top is another speaker grille. Both speakers are tuned by DTS.

Ports and controls

The Infinix Note 50x is powered by the Dimensity 7300 Ultimate SoC, making it the world’s first phone to have this MediaTek chip at the helm. The smartphone comes with up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM, 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage, and runs Android 15-based XOS 15 out of the box. Infinix has promised two years of Android OS upgrades and three years of security updates for the Note 50x.

The Infinix Note 50x supports 90FPS gaming and comes with AI-based features, including Folax, AIGC Portrait Mode, AI Gallery, AI Eraser, and AI Cutout. It also comes with over half a dozen pre-installed apps, but fortunately, most can be uninstalled.

The Infinix Note 50x is fueled by a 5,500 mAh battery with 45W wired and 10W reverse wired charging support. It also supports bypass charging, and Infinix says the battery can endure up to 2,300 charge cycles, giving it a lifespan of about six years.

The rest of the features of the Infinix Note 50x include an IP64 rating, MIL-STD-810H certification, Hi-Res Audio, and 5G connectivity. But before we wrap this up, we’d like to mention a few things about the protective case bundled with the Note 50x. The one we received with our green model has a slightly lighter shade of green than the phone. It has a nice vegan leather-like finish, but the pattern on it is different. The case also has cutouts for the fingerprint scanner, microphone, USB-C, and two speakers. We like it.

The Infinix Note 50x’s 6GB/128GB version is priced at INR11,499 ($135/€125), while the 8GB/128GB model costs INR12,999 ($150/€140). Both will go on sale in India starting April 3, but there’s no word on availability in other markets.
