When every main character in recent or upcoming tent pole titles is or appears to be a lesbian woman isn’t that the opposite of diversity? (Horizon, TLOU 2, Ghost of Yōtei and now Intergalactic.)If the characters are well developed I don’t really care but it still has a whiff of tokenism to it. Doesn’t it. I couldn’t get into TLOU 2 not because of the representation but because I couldn’t understand the motivations of everyone except maybe Dina’s. In this trailer Jordan came across as abrasive and unlikable and also no actual gameplay was shown. Strange way to introduce a new character. It was polished, technically impressive but ultimately boring. Remember how Uncharted 1 and 2 were revealed? That’s how you should promote action titles. But maybe I’m just getting old. We‘ll see how it all plays out in the end.

Between putting this game right before the TGA soundtrack mashup and winner announcement to Astrobot winning the whole thing, and Alyx getting completely snubbed in 2020 (not even nominated for GOTY) in favor of TLOU2 despite having the same level of innovation compared to Astrobot if not more, and Geoff defending the ridiculous price of PS5 Pro

I absolutely accepted that Naughty Dog is "inclusive" since they got rid of Amy Hennig and Neil Dickman took over, and that's why I no longer preorder nor buy their games.

@Repaduski, This is beyond the character's look. It has nothing to do with her shaving her head. It's got everything to do with her personality and performance. She lacks likeability. She's too smug, immature, has an unlikeable attitude, and is just a generic Girl boss. Naughty Dog has been anything but opened to feedback. Want proof? Why did they disable the comments knowing their trailer was getting ratioed to death? It couldn't be because this is the same company that alienated their target audience with The Last of us part 2. It couldn't be because they're inclusive to all criticism. It's not like they said don't buy if you don't like it and then when nobody brought their games, they whined about people not buying their games. Of course they shouldn't have that right when they said ignorant things like that. The company isn't opened to feedback. It's unprofessional in the entertainment industry not to give gamers what they want and then say they're the problem and what's wrong with their game. That's stupid criticism. Remember, they need us more than we need them. If we're not supporting them or giving them our money, they're nothing without us. That's why the majority of gamers voted with their wallets. They made it a point not to buy their games because they know if Naughty Dog hurts, they'll have to change trajectory. That's my overall point.

Going to have to disagree with this on sooo many levels despite this content creator's good intentions. TLOU original and TLOU2 are VERY different games and one should not confuse story, graphics, and game mechanics as all the same thing. Even Druckman, himself, would talke umbrage that someone was implying that these two games were tonally the same. The two games are NOT the same and the Uncharted games are mostly light hearted romps by comparison. What they have in common is QUALITY but the creative direction is dramatically different between the Uncharted games and TLOU/TLOU2. I mean….obviously.

The first TLOU does not come across as having any sort of agenda beyond telling a story and deliberately leaving certain things murky. Young people very often don't know or care what good writing is because they haven't read enough actual books or experienced enough life to have a grip on it. This is not to say that some young people are not wiser than their years and certainly the Boomer generation seems to have it's share of complete idiots. All generations do. But I would argue quite strongly that TLOU had great writing and TLOU 2 was awkwardly and even viciously serving an agenda rather than just being an amazingly organic story. Amy Hennig's departure seemed quite evident to me by how heavy handed TLOU2 was with it's messaging. She seemed to know the difference between forcing a message and just telling a compelling story. TLOU2 had us literally being forced to beat up our own characters and watching our favorite characters get mutilated. it was a departure in the EXTREME. Totally different beasts. Anyone saying different is serving an agenda of their own.

I've talked to friends who played the first game and literally NONE of them took issue with Ellie's sexuality. Everyone noted it because it was unique in the gaming world but all of them LOVED the game. That's contradictory to points made in this video. Further more, I've read tons of comments about the highly contentious things Druckman and team unleashed in TLOU2. So who are we talking about exactly? It's really only a tiny minority who give a rip about the subject matter and I would argue that those who are totally insensitive to the plight of LGBT people were not conflicted at all in the way Druckman intended them to feel while pitting Ellie against Abby. They were just there for the game mechanics and the game mechanics an improvement on the first game according to any comments I've ever read about these two games. People who do not understand story will obviously have very little criticism about what they don't understand. It should, also, be no surprise that people love to bandwagon and troll without any genuine thought what any of this means.

People are certainly allowed to like and enjoy BOTH games and they are allowed to hate them both, as well. But it's really telling that so many people who loved the first one has serious issues with the second game. If they understood good writing in the first one why wouldn't they understand bad writing in the second one? And as I mentioned before…many people were impressed by graphics and game play and could care less about story. They won't necessarily admit that, though.

Regardless, the pushback on Intergalactic is probably premature and I have no problem with the main character's looks. But the higher ups at Naughty Dog should probably consider their fan base and be careful about telling fans that what they really want is woke narratives above all else. Some DO but I would argue that the vast majority does not. If Naughty Dog wants to make games that only their development team want to play it could be a venture that leads into bankruptcy. But I haven't seen enough of Intergalactic to pass any sort of judgement. I hope I LOVE the game and hope that this whole drama isn't purely manufactured just to get people paying attention and arguing about a game that none of us know much about. If it's just a manipulation then there is a part of me would like to see this game fail as a consequence. I don't like being manipulated and I don't like being told things that are obviously not true by confused faceless people on the internet. I want the new game to succeed…but only if it deserves to.

I like the trailer, don't know if I'll play the game. Not due to baldy but it looks like it's gonna have a game loop I just don't vibe with at the moment, but hey… maybe it'll tickle my fancy with more knowledge down the road! But like movies, I think there should be games that just don't appeal to whoever you are for whatever reason. I mean, I love A24 horror films, can't say those types of stories are everyone's cup of tea, those films usually take wacko swings at doing something radically different. Sometimes it hits, and sometimes it totally misses the mark. But just knowing an A24 film tried… that's where it's at for me. I think games that try this out, are always going to be attacked because they break the mold.

Now I'm worried, Dragonage kind of left a bad stink due to its writing approach and downright weird direction from Dragonage's usual grimdark vibe. From what I've seen, there are some games that go hard on the diversity stuff, but get so distracted by that they often forget what the game was/is about! Like it's easy to argue for Last of Us 2, it hits on all it promised to do. When a game is good, it's easier to defend against the dregs but if it's bad… it's all the harder because the fault isn't aimed at the game but what it represents.

I'm kind of like, "If your game isn't good enough to support the ideas it purports to have… then why include them in the first place?" Kind of like, with great power comes responsibility, so it follows that with great representation, if you include it, please have a good foundation underneath your feet so you don't soil it for others in the future if the game sucks for whatever reason.

I don't know… I'm just sick of all this hate-channel game slop of pointless bigotry. I miss, being able to argue about nuanced stuff. It takes quite an effort to just find channels that aren't chasing that bait and just adding to the trash takes.

yeah no, despite what youre saying theres still the obvious points that A. Last of Us 2s story SUCKED with or without the buff bit and B. this new game w the bald headed chick that doesnt know how to use clippers is so blatantly predictable and bland looking you wont have to play it let alone buy it before knowing how it plays out or ends. naughty dog is a pretty easy target to take a look at and be like yup their stuff was good and diverse so the stuff now cant be any worse but this entertainment-industry-wide issue of absolutely shit writing and even shittier characters is obvious, so obvious that most ppl who are fans of games have already made up their minds and moved on, making vids like this nigh irrelevant.

Even if the game did badly, it hardly matters. More and more people are being born mixed race. By 2050, there’s gonna be much more diversity in the world than there is now. The supposed “fans” of Naughty Dog can complain all they want. Their days of being the majority are numbered.

How dare you take a thoughtful and measured approach to this subject matter?! Good work, brother.

1 – This is a walking talking simulator with movie style QTE cutscenes with 6 hours long, with 1 hour gameplay and 5 hour boring shenanigans?

2 – Is this game for me?

3 – This game runs? Its complete? Its a game? Or its a mess?
