I’m going away for the weekend with my girlfriend, we got a small cabin to stay at. I want to get a new game to bring along and was considering this one, but the complete lack of player interaction is giving me second thoughts.
This is Dreamscape. A wonderful game that Dice Tower (Tom) was bang out of order on.
Love this game, it's crunchier than Cascadia (which i already love to piece) and the only thing it lacked for me, was a good solo !
I found the little fanmade scenarios from bgg quite fun, yet, i felt it was still smelling "byos" too much, so i made my own, and, not to throw flowers at me, but i manage to make a solo that makes the game great for me in solo, and with 2 simple win/loss conditions wich i much prefer in solo !
Basically, there's a little draft that makes you start the game with 4 differents animals cards (from 4 different colors) and there is two ways for you to win :
1) you realize all your 4 cards completely (removing all the animal cubes from those)
2) you completed 3 of your 4 cards and at least 10 animal cubes has been placed on the board, and score 105pts
If not, you lose !
It offer a tons of replayabilty and each game is an enjoyable puzzle i want to resolve (and sometime, it requires me 5 or 6 games to make it !)
With the little draft you also have the tactical choice of what will be 2 of your 4 animal cards, so you have that choice to makes before the game starts and try to make for the best matching cards to help you the best reaching one of those 2 wins conditions.
And to make this more dynamic, i've added special abilities that you can you once you've clear a card or placed 5/10 animals cubes on your board !
(i will post a youtube video explaining my solo mode someday soon as i think it might interested a lot of people)
All in all, i love this game !
I still prefer cascadia for teaching this sort of "placing-stuff" games. But if the players are not beginner, i found Harmonies to be more interresting.
And as Cascadia just received an excellent digital version, Harmonies replace it in my collection, and that's meaning a lot, coz i love cascadia quite a bit !
Cheers from belgium !
Two other alternatives to consider are Reef and Neotopia.
Great review, as always. I tried Harmonies and I really wanted to like it. It is so beautiful but it wasn't for me. I like trail blazers and games that have some building / puzzle element. But somehow I always found this puzzle too short and not very satisfying. I gave it some attempts and then quickly sold it on. I am sure someone is really enjoying it now.
hahahaha damn those alternatives make me think I gotta try before buy this game. Azul is fantastic but Cascadia.. I don't like it at all
I've not played this one yet, but I am very cautious about AP games as my usual crowd loves to take their sweeeeet time. I thus prefer games where you can already start thinking about your next turn as soon as you wrap up your current. How does it work in this game? Can you already start planning or you must wait for it come to your turn and only then you see what's possible?
Probably you can hatedraft here too, just need to spend even more time thinking and be ready to lose some friends lol
I say it every time guys – your review structure (from the conversational camera angle, to the points you hit on and their sequence, to the way you use b-roll and humor) is really great. I like some over the top content as much as the next guy, but your videos are always super clear in the message you want to get across and your arguments are easy to follow. Don't change!
Another great review, thanks for all you do!
Guys you're so professional and i really enjoy when i watche your channel. 👌
The comment on AP hit me hard man💔
Honestly, I wouldn’t say the theme isn’t here. 3D-terrain kinda makes it look like a real biom, and animals do go to places where they live in real life. It’s more abstract than let’s say everdell, for sure, but overall harmonies feels very thematic, at least for me. I am amazed how creators made every animal thematically suitable for specific areas =)
YOU ARE BOTH AWESOME! ❤❤❤
Loose the ear piercing you hippie 😂 kidding as always great video.
How long is the honeymoon though?
Love the video and you guys btw
Great video, as always, boys.
