By talking to people in the game. It was a bit of a chore, but I figured it out when I was a kid so really all you had to do was talk to people and you kinda figure it out from hints here and there.

@zap8377 Or in the case of the mushroom, you get teleported back to Lost Woods. =P
@WolfgerLion You can't teleport -ever- during either of the timed missions or you'll get sent back to King Zora, which means you'll have to do the frog and eyedrops missions all over again. =P
