As a Kiwi..these are working dogs.. brilliant farm dogs.. they're not house dogs
I have a border collie and he is the sweetest, most obedient, most loyal dog in the world. Our family is just so in love with him and he is everything to us. He is though, obsessed with balls and playing fetch. Oh well, nobody's perfect!
I got my border collie as a little puppy and i shut down the nipping and biting so fast because I knew it would be a thing the breed would likely do and dogs biting people is not okay. The only person he did this to was my ex fiance and I allowed it to happen to him alone. Dog has never done it since or to anyone else but him but I look back on it as funny. He asked if the dog was calling him fat (like cows/sheep) and I said "no, he is telling you that you are".
He is so great with kids and Im amazed he doesn't pull on his leash with them at all. But he will drag an adult down a hallway.
Smart, beautiful dogs. Mine insists on protecting me at all costs and its a little much sometimes. But he loves me and I love him more!
I own a border collie and I have done none of these things . In fact quite the opposite and he is the most laid back good easy going. He never tries to escape in fact he NEVER goes out the gate even when called to because we taught him as a puppy not to as we live on a busy road. He never bites or nips and never did and he just likes running around the garden a few times a day not the hours of exercise as suggested here, and yet he;s still a very happy healthy dog.
Mine hates getting into water deeper than about an inch. He won't jump fences over a couple of inches but will jump down from high embankments before I can stop him. He will try and round up every dog in the neighbourhood if I gave him half a chance, he's quick at learning things and loves his long walks (three to five hour walks that is). He loves sniffing around the neighbourhood and I love him
I have a 3-month-old border collie I do not know what to do with her I have been trying 6 years old I'm thinking maybe I should just give it to somebody that will have time I'm not feeling well most of the time so it's like I don't know what to do with her but I don't want heard a thing that I'm abandoning her because that's the last thing I want to do but she's young and Young she needs children around her and she needs to be able to run as far as she wants
I have a border collie lab mix who his 13 loves every one very smart gives the stare when she wants to walk or eat very quite barks
When people go past our house looking out front window she sleeps all night on her chair with blanket she his the best dog she was a rescue
Awesome!❤
3 months ago I adopted a 1 year old border Collie who had lived on a ranch and was a failed cattle dog so her owner gave her up. After getting her she had scars and scabs all over her body and it was clear that she had been abused. she was terrified of everything and everyone ,after a few months we have made progress but she still hates walks because she's scared of cars and we cant throw things yet bc she runs away and hides. She is the sweetest girl loves hugs and wr havent heard her bark once nor has she ever bitten or even mouthed at anyone. She is still incredibly timid qnd and i am looking for ways to help her overcome her fears and bring her out of ber shell. Open to suggestions
First time Border Collie mama here I'm training my Ozzy as a service dog
Get a tennis racket and ball, go any where there is space, hit the ball, they will bring it back all day until they are tired. Same with a frisby. Good indoor game, if you have light weight medium light ball you can train them pop it in a waste basket with their nose, like a seal. If you want to make it tired take it to a shopping centre and sit out the front, it will watch everyone which exhausts them. My friend had one that escaped to a nearby farm and rounded up the sheep into the local soccer goal, it had never done it before just did it by instinct. When I took our kids swimming in the local river, it would round them up and not let them stray too far. They are best kids fun dog. They just drop a lot of hair everywhere. You can’t leave them out side they don’t like it and will make you feel guilty if you do.
I own a border collie she gets along with people very well with strangers and everything
LOVE FOR ALL BORDERCOLLIES
LOVELY SMART KIND DOG WORKING HARD, FASTRUNNING
why isn't kick on this list? you should never do that
I have two 3 month old border collie/shepherd sisters that dont really seem to listen worth a shit. If I take one away they're fine. Im thinking of getting rid of one, but they are like best friends.
Im sure ours is alien….
Our border collie is 3 1/2 mos. old, smart and loving…however, the nipping continues. Read tips on controlling it but not a great success as yet.
Mines is older and now she's being weird. I think she's not being activated enough.
Our border collie girl is smarter than people I know.
My grand border collie is 3 years old. The family went on a 14 day holiday leaving the dog alone for 10 hours a day with one quick visit from a friend. She did not eat or drink for 4 days. She sits by the window day in and day out waiting for them to come home. My grandson stays there overnight but he is gone all day. I don't feel that is sufficient care. Comments please
I have a very lazy border collie. He's awesome
I wouldn't be without my wonderful boy Shadow.
Our three year old Border Collie thinks he has a job. Every morning when he gets up, he goes straight to his ball, drops it in the kitchen and waits for it to be kicked or thrown down the hall. He continues to return with it and drop it on the floor as long as anyone is nearby. If we go somewhere else in the house , he follows with his ball. This goes on all day.
I have a border collie. He must have a lot of different activities. I’m living in the middle of french pyrenees and bring him with me for tracks, like minimum 8 or more than 10h. The same with ski touring. He use to come with me during more than 8h in the snow, climbing 1500m. But he also absolutely need to go for a walk in an big area by home where all the dogs in the vicinity are going. I realise that tracking or ski touring, even more than 10h is not enough and don’t replace the contact with others dogs. When he is going there he always run a lot with the others and play. In conclusion, sun, snow, wind, rain, you must go out with the border every days mote than 2h…it is a dog for sportive people
I have to rescues who worked cattle. I got them at different time female took less training but yes lots of running keeps her good the male half her age took a lot of training had a rough life the ranch he was on but he’s turn into a great dog. He loves being guard dog to my wife other BC and my little jack russell. Great hard working loving dogs.
I love my border collie. Loyal, loving, protective and powerful. I don't think you need to do 1hr walks with all, mine likes shorter walks and loves playing with his toys in the garden. Although border collies are high energy dogs it's still important to remember every dog is different..
Mine started protecting our chickens and bringing us eggs, no one tought him that
Try to identify the special quirks of your dog. We live in an environment full of beep, and buzzes. Border Collies tend to be very sensitive to certain sounds. I try to figure out what those sounds are and address them if you can. It's not always easy to figure out what the sound is that's bothering your dog. Be aware of your surroundings. Some possibilities may include Fireworks & Guns, Compressed air (Pumps, Nail guns), , Electronic devices (Beeps & Buzzes), I have one now that does like the clanging of horse shoes at the pit in the park.
I got collie of a fog pound, she was then just 6 months old. Now we over 6 years together. Amazing dog. Very smart, got plan for everything, and certainly know what she is doing. Loves to play. Her toys – her treasure 🥰🥰🥰 each dog is amazing, and every bread is special. But collies are something else, its like human trapped in dogs body
A well bred border collie doesn't nip or bite. They do their jobs with authority and brains, not brawns.
I've had 4 border collies. The last one I lost in my 60's. They aren't hypo-energetic. They love just hanging out with you.
My Bc was the love of my life. I miss him everyday.
Thank you for the interesting information.
I got one exactly same colour, he's very attentive, very intelligent collie.
Ours is a hotmess but she is super sweet, and lovely pet. All this is so true to our dog.
My spaniel/BC Cross pup is 4 months old, plays all the time with his mum, loves a walk, learns so quickly, and is super affectionate. My students and friends love him ❤️
Love the content! Thanks for sharing your border collie knowledge! Spot on! We just put Addie to rest! It’s incredible to love one of these beauties! We have a lot of BC content sharing our Addison! ❤️
My heart dog was a BC mix. She was very intelligent, manipulative (big time), a bit stubborn, and hilarious. She used to herd me around the house, poking the back of my right leg with her nose, steering me to where she wanted me to go. I lost her 2 years ago. Because of her, I got another BC from the pound. He's also ridiculously intelligent, unbelievably affectionate, and is a massive goof ball. Fricken LOVE Border Collies.
