Feral or friendly really doesnt matter. Lets say its a feral. IF you help it when the cat is seriously ill / wounded, and it survives, the cat usually becomes easily fostered. Sometimes it goes in just a few days. The Window of easy socialisation opens up wide again in this situation… And that is a great and important memento for a wanna be rescuer: "Why shall I put in lotsa of effort and perhaps even good money, in a cat I dont know and whom may even be feral??" Look on the answer above: the heavy money bet is, IF the cat survives, you get a friend and protector for life, and also; a Guardian Angel after the cats is no more among us. Nay, your only real danger is, if the cat DOES belongs to somebody, and this somebody ungratefully just takes back the cat, with barely saying a thanks, without doing any move to repay you your cost for the extensive vet treatment… such happens. Ps. Of course, I understand not all are of the right wood, and able to help out effectively.. You do what you can do in YOUR circumstances. Ps. This reminds me about a lecture given by a fireman whom got totally burned… He survived with face and head a masque… He told about the situation when he was barely alive, naked, the nurses taking care of him, and he was forced to play along… Many thoughts went through his mind; he become alive as a new, much more mature and understanding person… Something such… Our rescued cat is in much in a similiar situation.
