That dog is EASY! Let’s see with a truly reactive dog…
I just want to tell y’all something funny. I have a 9 month old 34 kilo (around 75 lbs, im from Europe) Dogo argentino that i bought with my brother when he was 8 weeks old and it was actually and accident because we thought we were gonna buy a jack russel. After driving for over 2 hours and looking at the ad more closely i saw it was a dogo argentino. Bc of the fact that we were already nearby we decided to take a look at the dog. And when we got there it was 2 addict “trying” to take care of a nest of 9 pups. He was in horrible condition and so i decided to take him home with me and give him the love he deserves. He is healthy now and free of infections and any viruses he had. But since he is such a strong and big dog and it is a working breed and he is just a very active dog he tends to lunge at other dogs and also people it so far only has bern because he want to play but still it is unwished behaviour and since he is in his puberty i want to use it to mine and his advantage so i tried this out the last time i went to walk with my dog and it isn’t perfect at all but i definitely saw a big improvement.
He does give treats. A better way is to show your boss you are the boss.
Jerking the collar is NOT an ethical way to train a dog. People who are not dog trainers watching videos like this can easily get carried away and may yank their dog, damaging their esophagus, and making a dog who is fearful, anxious, and offensive towards other dogs .
Learning from a video as this one is as bad as taking lessons from Caesar Milan. You cannot yank your dog; they don't understand what you are asking for and you're creating a mentally and emotionally unhealthy animal being.
That was not a reactive dog
easy to show when the dog is already trained and good on a leash. When you have a dog who lunges and barks at EVERYTHING it's tough to conceptualize what to do in that moment
why do you make your dog sit? what's the purpose of sitting if you want her to stay?
Don't give up your day job 😅
My dog is a damn psycho on walks. I get anxiety just thinking about walking her out in public
Best video that makes sense. Thank you and looking forward to trying it with my dog.
My god my Pomeranian he is nuts I’ve tried all these methods and he’s still reactive people dogs a leaf blowing I’d like to see him transform mine 😳
yes but this dog is big and kind of lazy. My min pins would not care about food outside either. They would be bouncing at the end of the leash, one of them only barking because the other has lost it! I used just your leash method consistently for 4 days and on the 5th I had 2 quiet mini pinschers in step on my left. I was so proud!
If anyone is struggling with aggression and / or reactivity, I highly recommend #TomDavis you will not be disappointed. Good luck!
There is some good info here. However, a prong collar is a wonderful tool, If used properly. The e collar is also a wonderful tool, again, if done properly. When your dog understands that the correction is coming from you, you will not get a negative response in training. The e collar takes low conditioning in order for your dog to understand that the correction is coming from you. Going out and just shocking the crap out of the dog will do the complete opposite. This dog was behaving beautifully, not a good example. Keep in mind that a dog will behave in a totally different manner with a stranger than the owner, especially if the owner and dog have a poor relationship.
Wanna try to train my Big Rottie Mack to leave it ! ? When another male dog barks at my Mack. I block his eye contact and turn around walk away. So far no eye contact between dogs works for us.
I bought the gentle leader for Maybelle 68 lb lab. and it did diminish her walking/pulling thing….but when it came to correcting her from chasing anything small…didn't do a thing. She would loose her mind and no correction, even if early, walking away, turning around and going in the other direction is ALWAYS a fight. You helped us so far and am grateful…perhaps a few words about getting her to calm down with smaller animals. It's exhausting. Thanks.
My dog sees the neighbors dogs and lunges and has gotten out of his haltie and a fight breaks out
Ha…I should send you Miss Nori the lunatic lunger. My son's 7 month old Pyranee. Omg Lol 😂 Dude…this Pyranees is already chill, we wanna see how you fix a crazy one. We gotta a crazy one. She's sweet as pie but dang…she's big. Her giant paw fileted my arm in love. 😂😂😂
Don't use treats. Then he constantly rewards with treats.
This dog does not have a problem with lease reactivity.
I just adopted a great pyrenees/german pointer mix and after viewing another one of your videos on loose leash walking, she is doing great so thank you for that. What a difference from the first few days I got her. However, when she sees a squirrel or flying bug, she goes crazy. I can't control her and that is after doing the loose leash walking for a while. No amount of correction or stopping works. She is like a wild horse you are trying to tame. I hope you will do a video on something like that when they lose focus and won't focus on you no matter what you do. She does not react to other dogs or people at all. She may tug a bit but that is easily correctable. If it is small animals or something like that, forget it.
Every dog this guy uses is non-reactive on the leash
Can you do a walk on a regular side walk for a dog who is constantly walking ahead and not paying attention?
The only thing is, this is not how my dog is. We've trained and trained but the moment she hears the slightest evidence of anyone in proximity, even 2 houses down, even our refrigerator making an unexpected noise, she starts being hyper and barking. This morning I was walk training her on leash in the house and she was doing well but as soon as we moved outside she immediately was hyper distracted by everything. Then the neighbor came out with her little girl and my dog started barking furiously and scared the child, who started crying and hiding behind the car. Made me feel so bad! I love this dog, she's very sweet but this cannot continue.
I'm sure this is good advice and strategies for some dogs, but it seems pretty unrealistic for mine.
Earn walking down the street? Hmm.. my dog needs to pee and poop and get at least some exercise.. a walk outside is not always just for fun.
Also, he does pay attention to me inside the house before a walk. The problems only happen (sometimes) when encountering other dogs during the walk. He can sit and stay, but not when distracted. THAT is the problem.
And gentle petting never "riles up" my dog.
Not helpful, this dog is not reactive at all
Thank you for reassuring me of my instincts on training my dog. I feel like I’m too hard on him, but this is great and helpful. I’ve seen the soft approach, but that’s not a cookie cut method for all dogs.
I have a dog that’s nine months old who loves everybody and everything. She barks and lunges. I’m working with the trainer right now on this. I wish videos that people shared showed a dog barking and lunging. I agree with everything you said, but I need to see it in action.
How old is this dog? My dog is five months old and she growls and barks at other dogs like you said, cause she wants to play, but people are afraid of growling and barking.
So do I start this training with her now?
