I never actually played DnD at all before is this game a good starter to try it out?
Currently playing this on PS5. I dont think the controls is complex. The gameplay mechanics are complex. But controls is simple. Much simpler than something like RDR2.
What I wish larian would improve is the cumbersome UI, they should give us the actual freedom to setup the radials. The first positive step towards this, I think, is letting us set a radial based on function and type, like actions, bonus actions, spells, consumables, throwables, etc; this method will automatically add new items into the relevant radial and greatly reduce the amount of time we spend moving things around between the radials.

Looks like a great game. The turn base fighting system seems a little odd to me, since I haven't played games like that. Probably the only thing that's making me a little hesitant on getting it.

I’ve been playing at my friends house in his garage on the ps5 we already have 20hrs in and cleaned up act1 pretty fast just going around some places in the under dark and the Forge and we’re off to act 2 😅

video sum up: basically PC version is better, u wont notice the minor downgrades of performance because of the quality of the game. PS5 has radial menus (which suck for complicated characters imho) and split screen (like all of Larian's games before)…that's about it. Better on the PC unless u want couch co-op.
Strongly dislike the font on the PS5 version as well – its more mobile UI font, not the stylized font that the PC version has. If you think this doesnt effect immersion, boy did u miss out on the controversies tat games like Diablo 4 already have with this and how they instantly fixed it and EVERYBODY admitted it was noicable and better – stuff like this is minor and amateur…don't know why options arent given to keep the core PC version font when PC is played on a smaller screen anyways…this isnt a mobile game, TV's can afford ot have stylized fonts as well – such a strange mess up for all the things they did get right.
the radial menus fail at higher levels w/ the radial menu – on PC u can see 70 skills simultaneously and INSTANTLY know what spells/skills are available and which arent and that read-ability is completely lost with the radial menu where you can only see 36 abilities w/o cycling through. At higher levels especially with casters who EASILY have 70 spells/abilities, knowing which of ur higher level spells, or bonus action is immediately available is completely lost with the radial menu. They should have either kept the grid hotbar (like they did with DOS 2) or at least the option. This was already a solved problem years ago and read-ability is CRUCIAL in a complicated game such as this with EASILY a 100 items/skills/spells/abilities available. They dropped the ball n this 1 – and you will NOT understand this critique at low level or if you only have 20 abilities or less. Try playing a wizard/cleric or multiclassing and see how the radial menu completely falls apart…

I am already in act 3 in PS5-version, I started on saturday and I've been playing like crazy ever since. Really well done console-version, I can definitely recommend this to any PS5 owners.
There is however, 1 huge problem in this game is that it is like a Netflix show with all the npcs wanting to have sex with you and everybody else. That for me is of a very low std and extremely sleazy….If you take all that unnecessary sexual banter away, we could have had an act 4. Outside of that, the game is brilliant . I also think that Larian Studios brought out the game, too soon
I’ve played roll playing games since I was a kid. I’m 34 now. To me this game gives nostalgia feelings of playing ff7 and chrono trigger. It’s that great. I wake up thinking about it and go to sleep thinking about it. It’s the best role playing game I’ve played in years
