Watched the video to see if there was some way I could've made the interaction between my dog and my husky mix foster go better. All I learned from their first interaction was that I'm the only one in my family who can read dog behavior.
My boyfriend has a dog, I have two. We want to spent time together, but my female dog is very territorial and she's not in contact with other dogs, as we live in the country side. I'm afraid how it will work out. We had a short walks together. My dog was curious, but not very happy and now we have to be together at home. I'm terrified 😮
I adopted a Belgian Malinois from euthanization and I can't even have my Emily sitting in my living room without him going crazy and I was just fostering him. My other dog is coming out boarding soon and I need help😢
I even made a sign with a hoodie on it……. 😂
Hey I need help so I got 2 dogs so snow beezy my poodle/Shih Tzu 49 in dog years doesn’t like my new dog Levi he an Huskie mixed wit pit he 4months everytime Levi come around snow beezy he get to growling and trying bite him need help getting snow beezy to get along with Levi
Thanks for acknowledging this, am so tired of people letting their dogs run up to my reactive dog, they laugh when he goes mad through fear and it’s up to us to hold onto him on the lead. We say he doesn’t like other dogs but that makes no difference to some people, it’s ridiculous. Our other dog is super friendly so it’s difficult walking both together
Thank you from New Jersey
You've bee SO helpful. have your E-collar & love it. Thanks for all the great advice. From So. California We love our dogs here. Come visit us. Big dog community. 🦮🐕🦺🐶🤗💞
Really great advise. Greetings from Pretoria, South Africa.
Thank you for this awesome video! From Johannesburg, South Africa
I have a 4 year old GSD as well as a 2.5 yr old staff. Recently we started fostering a 2yr old American bulldog mix . We have kept them separate with a fence. My staffy is a little on edge and is the dominant one . How can I get them to get along?
Yesterday a guy let his dog off leash to meet my puppy without asking me
I have a 9 week old puppy. I can’t stand other people’s dogs unless they are setters. I only take my dog to isolated areas for exercise. He will be standoffish like my previous dogs.
I have an aggressive pitbull.I want to get another dog so he can have a friend. But I don't know how to go about it
Sydney, Australia. Love all your work! Thank you for helping : )
Gonna be doing this in about 2-3 weeks or so to introduce my brother's 7 year old dog to my new puppy. The winter weather throws a hiccup in this but the plan is to have the pup in a play pen and let the older one have more free space, at a neutral party house without the toys and such until they seem more comfortable around each other. We also plan to beforehand exchange some clothes and toys with the other's scents on it so they can be exposed to each other's smell beforehand. My brother's dog already has been fantastic around puppies but since the two are going to have to see each other a LOT it doesn't hurt to try and do as much as possible to make the introduction safe and positive. More worried that the puppy will react weirdly since she only ever saw her parents and uncle, but at least they are the same breed so that might help a bit too.
A fan from San Diego here. Our pack has learned so much from your content. So much so that we even but your Dogtra collaboration and have enjoyed a wonderful life with our pup because of it.
I live in Evansville Indiana we have four dogs and all of those were raised together and they did fine as puppies and his adult dogs up until we took one of them to have him groomed brought him home and then one of the other dogs went after him and since then we cannot have those two dogs in the same room without them going after each other what can I do to make these two dogs get along like they used to
Love all your stuff . Currently struggling with my 1.5 year old but I think I need to reteach the basic foundations and commands and move forward … he’s one that doesn’t listen all the time outside so back to the basics inside I guess ..
I am all the way from Ontario Canada ! Have you ever travelled there?
I am a retired k9 officer. I have never met Tom but I have learned so much from his videos . This guy understands dogs like no one I have ever seen before. Thank you Tom for the videos and your love for dogs.
Liked the vid before it started. That's trust 🙂
my dog goes to an off leash day camp once a week with 9 other dogs. She loves dogs but when shes on a leash she is reactive but then cries when she cant see the other dogs. such a weirdo.
I have a soon to be four year old Norwegian Elkhound. We adopted him just after he turned a year and the shelter did not have much information about his past. He learned from the other dogs to run to the door and bark every single time a dog walked past outside. He watched his brother get bit in the nose by a Golden Retriever at our local dog park. I was a very novice dog owner at the time and was not very educated about dog parks. We have never gone back inside since but use them as a training opportunity to work on obedience and engagement outside of the fence. He was also attacked by an aggressive off-leash dog. I had him muzzle trained before this as he would sometimes get a bit spicy at the vet. I am thinking he had a bad experience with nail trimming at Petsmart and didn't like any vets or groomers. I now do all of his grooming myself. I will always muzzle him when meeting new dogs. While I don't think he would actually go after another dog, it does give me a piece of mind that he cannot physically harm the other dog. If things do go south, I don't want him getting the idea that he can be aggressive to every dog he meets.
Thank you for your videos! I have a 6 month and 4 yr old Belgian malinois. The 4 year old doesn’t care for other dogs while the puppy loves to socialize. Appreciate this video! Always nervous to introduce the puppy to new dogs
My corso doesn't like new people but loves other dogs.. what can I do to help him
Love all your videos,thank you!
Some guy got offended when I stopped him from letting his crusty white dog walk up to my Doberman. Like sir , do you not know what leash aggression is?! I told him I was actually doing him a favor!
I stumbled onto your channel 5 days ago and am so glad I did. I m from Vancouver, Canada. I adopted my foster rescue Saluki last year and have been trying to work with her leash reactivity, Just following your advice has already made a difference in her calmness when out walking on leash. I’ve been working extensively at home with the “ foundation” of our relationship and she is responding much more calmly already. She used to bark every time my teenage daughter would come home or walk into the room. Now. I could put her into a sit and shift her attention to me and stop her barking quite quickly. I appreciate your passion. Knowledge, experience and clear approach of educating dog lovers/owners like me. I used to have 3 dogs all at the same time; a malinois mix, a rescue pug, and a frenchie. My malinois passed at 16 years, my pug passed at 15 1/2, and my beloved frenchie passed last year at close to 13 years of age. They all had different temperaments but my new rescue, a Saluki mix from Iran presented challenges I had not dealt with before but now feel you have equipped me with the valuable knowledge and new insights in helping her have the best quality of life possible… she’s 2 1/2 years old now.
Hi Tom, just stumbled on your channel yesterday while searching for reactive German shepherd videos. I find your videos to be very informative and easy to follow. Since watching my wife and I have recognized some of the behaviours you’ve touched on with our boy Maverick. I’m very interested to know if you ever plan on returning to Toronto , Canada again.
Keep up the great work Tom , we’re very eager to see more videos.
So excited to attend and audit the Nashville experience!!!! Hahhaha dog nerd I love that… so me
I have a tip people don't think about. STAY CALM. If you're worried, often this will make the dog worried. No tension on the leash.
Getting their energy out before hand if possible would help them as well so they're not as crazy during the introduction.
I work at a shelter and there's been many dogs we've had that were barrier reactive and they've done amazing some do get over stimulated quickly though. We introduce on leash and then tie off leashes so if needed we can take the leash before anything starts if body language changes also have catch poles, airhorns and the hoes but they are hardly used. I think there's only one dog I've had I would have muzzled cause he didn't even try to smell the dog he was just hard staring and when the other dog got close he tried jumping on him but it was at a distance where he wouldn't have been able to touch the other dog the other dog was quiet and more interested in the handler than him the other dog also hid behind the handler after he smelled at a distance the other dog started hiding behind the handler like he knew what he wanted to do.
I always take my dog and my dog visitors for a small walk together. Works like a charme
Amazing advice Tom. Watching from western Canada
My dog does not like any other dog when on the leash. He prefers having NO friends other than the other dog I have in my home (his Mother). He stays muzzled on any walk, and we warn everyone to keep distance. This does not bother me. It is unfortunate, but I have to accept this. Forcing my dog into socialization would only break down the bond I have with him given the circumstances. No professional has been able to "cure" him nor has any course information assisted to cure him. All of it is good to reinforce your training and bond with your own dog. Don't blow it by not understanding the true cause of any reactivity. Good luck to anyone with this issue.
The thing with my dog is she only does well with other well behaved dogs she doesn’t like a pushy dominant dog or one who would jump on me either only if i know the personality of the other dog she is able to be with them
Crazy money 53
Thank you for everything you do, Tom. I don't know if you'll see this, but, from the bottom of my heart- thank you! You truly are the reason my dog has made it this far in life. He was extremely reactive when he was 2, and he ended up biting the mailman. I found your channel shortly after and your training tips are the only reason I was able to understand what I was doing wrong and keep him from being put down. He is currently passing away from lymphoma, but he is 6 years old. Once again, thank you 💚

I don't know if you can help me or maybe you can point me in the right direction. But my dog she's about a year old now. Only pees in her kennel when the mat is in there. And she'll lay in it. Leave her just a towel nothing. For a while I shortened the kennel but still had the same thing. Because I read if they have the space they will but that was when she was smaller. But i figure she wouldn't lay in it if she had the room. The most she is in there is 5 hours while I'm at work. But is fine all night up to 8 hours outside of the kennel.
Come to Colorado!
