I would be more interested on why the author addresses 21 century human in the book directly when they are at least 1,5 billion years apart?
It's likely that due to the galaxies size the humans and their descendants only explore a small section of it. So it's possible the Qu have done what they did to humans to thousands of other species across the wider galaxy. The author could be the descendant of one of them.
Perhaps the copper boned creatures humans found before the Qu mutated them are the descendants of a race the Qu mutated.

The author not knowing where he species came from seems like a thematically fitting motivation for him to do all this research into humanities history, whether they are related or not

I wonder what it would be like to meet the author, how would we communicate? Would it want to dissect us for it's research or befriend us? Like some weird spin-off where a ship of normal humans somehow get forwarded in time and encounter them through some weird cosmic coincidence.
How could any of the different species even be human after so much time passing though? It would be like us today saying that we were the same species as the small mammals that lived in the Jurassic period, despite the lineage connection we are completely different species to the creatures we came from a hundred million years ago, and the same would be true for all the descendant races of all tommorrows.

the very obvious answer here is that author seems to know what the ending of the Qu was (they allude to) but doesnt care to mention it. If it really was a Qu decendant they would care.

I think the alien author’s species is a highly evolved rabbit experiment by The Qu and abandoned on a random planet for eons.
He is actually probably the direct descendant of the old humans like us and eventually we evolved overtime into this.
i think it'd be cool if he was a descendent of a human, because he's holding a skull, kinda like shakespare. but it would also be cool if he wasnt neither a qu or a human, it would make the universe bigger and feel more lived on

i think that the author is coming from another galaxy because life can’t just re-evolve in 1 billion years, or maybe he’s a distant descendant of the qu or Asteromorphs because if rats can turn into every type of mammal in only like 60 million years, the qu and asteromorphs could easily evolve into the author in a billion years, but hey that’s just my theory.

I was just thinking "what is the author?" and this appears in my feed, get out of my walls or pay rent.
I think it’s best if he’s a descendent of the Qu, after the astromorphs defeated the Qu instead of take revenge or kill all of them they removed the psychopathic parts of there brain, there religion, there technology, there memories of there ancestors crimes and everything else that made them evil then found a planet and let them start over.
This would show how the astromorph’s evolved to be better then the Qu, instead of taking revenge and causing agony they disarmed the threat and prevented mass future agony removing the ideology that caused agony instead of the species that caused it.
This would also make the alien author a perfect parallel to the Qu, the Qu viewing humanity as pathetic and uninteresting and in need of change with the alien author viewing them as interesting and and fascinating in-spite of there flaws, similar to Omni man’s character development.

1 billion years = twice the time that has passed since the later Cambrian period. The Author could be anything.

So the Author couldnt descent from any posthuman, i would say that the Author is rather a Qu descendent or it is its own alien kind not originating from any of them.

It makes the universe feel even bigger than before. That there is another species completely unrelated to us or the other species in the story, probably wiþ their own if not just as long and complex history

I like the idea that hes a total alien, unrealted to the Qu or humanity, from a far far far distant part of the universe ,that way our story is only a tiny tiny part of the history of the universe.
Besides qu, i believe there are alien species that completely unrelated to humans in all tomorrows universe (even there is still a controversy that the qu is actually asteromorphs time traveling). The bug facers survived alien invasion before the gravitals and its not the qu who did it. So i just like to think the author is completely unrelated to any creatures he chronicled, simply a new and different alien species that discovers earth

I don't think even Kosemen thought far enough to give the Author a backstory but if i had to guess from the information given, it's either something related to the Panderavis (due to their proximity to Earth)or the New Machines. (still technically not 'related' to humans)
Either way even if it's not either of those i hope they would be given an interesting background story, something we wouldn't really expect, something containing a nice plot twist.
One version of the Chinese character ku (which someone on Reddit pointed out to look similar to the Qu)apparently means skeleton so the skull might hint at the Qu theory's validity.
what if the qu once altered a species to document them and their achievements and the alien author is just a decendant of that species documenting their downfall. that would also explain why after billions of years he still knows about the star people and the skeleton they found and also why he knows about every species the qu created from humans and why

Why does he look like one of the modular people. Maybe he is an highly evolved human. Maybe the astromorphs have left some human races that did not know they were human. They just thought that they are another whole race
I do not think the Writer is a human descendant because we as a species have the tendency of archirving hour history, so the information about the latter part of the story would be a Lot more clear and they would (maybe) still have some time of archive
