I really didn't notice any difference between the original aliens in the alien director cut😊
I need help from some Alien experts as I think I'm going mad. I just watched Alien "directors cut" on 4k for the first time. Looked amazing loved it as much as I did the first time many many years ago. Afterwards I popped on the Blu ray just to compare picture quality. You know the scene where Ripley's checking out the distress signal, then it cuts to Jones licking his paws, then a shot on the planet surface with the moon and …on the blu ray version you can see the 3 lights of dallas, lambert and kanes helmets as they walk down a large mountain but on the 4k they're not visable. Think its about the 24 minute mark. Why did they get rid of them for the 4k ?
A lot of fluff was shot and rightfully cut from the theatrical release. I wish though, they would have included the transmission signal scene. I love to see Lambert do more useful stuff.
It took seeing it on the big screen last year for me to completely stand behind the theatrical cut. The cuts they made in 1979 were justified and made for the best film, but like you always say on your channel, more Alien is better than less—I would take more cuts and versions, so long as the theatrical is available.
I watch the director's cut, I find that overall it just works better.
The seen where Bret was turning into an egg i got the impression that he was being morphed into an egg 🥚 that was intended for Dallas and Dallas would produce a queen. Some people got the impression that the scene was saying both were becoming eggs. I just figured that it was part of the aliens' ability to make a Queen from its first victim. So its life cycle could continue, sort of like frogs with an all female population. Dr. Grant from Jurassic Park said it best, life will find a way!
Theatrical version all the way. Too many extra shots of the alien showing it too obviously to be a guy in a rubber suit, especially the awful scene where you see it hanging above brett.
The original is no doubt the correct cut. They only made the director's cut so we could see some of the deleted scenes. And the cocoon scene is fascinating but we were better off with it cut not just because of pacing, but it also allowed James Cameron to come along and expand the cycle of the alien. I think if alien was left alone, we missed out but it was too popular for it to ever remain a stand alone movie. And you saw what happens when they run out of ideas.
Duh… of course Jones didn’t do it.
He was a kitty.
They cut the Ash dialogue because Ripley is out of focus on her close up for those lines
I like all the original versions. However I would love to get a link to the aliens special addition or it might be known as the director’s cut.
"then of course, he is face-hugged"
my favourite line
I love your videos you have the best voice
I’m not happy that the Directors cut is two minutes shorter than the theatrical version
Ripley wasn't going to just let Dallas and the others die. There was a procedure to be followed. "24 hours for decontamination"
All of this is very interesting! Is there any way where I could watch the theatrical and directors cut online?
I think video scenes, and dialogue from Dallas and Ripley about privately held suspicions, doubts about Ash, should have or could have been developed to give clues that Ash is not on the team, duplicity.
Ash knew what was coming when the face hugger fell off Kane, and the baby Alien would have to pop, he knew it was a parasite and would plant the egg inside Kane .
I came looking for this video coz I´m watching the movie on Disney + and I was wondering exactly how or when did they see the alien ( brett´s dead extended) and I felt something was missing xD.
I want a cut of the movie that features Jerry Goldsmith's full intended score properly mixed with dialogue and sound effects.
Even the alien knew peda would of cancelled its ass 😂
I always prefer to rewatch the directors cut. Same for the next two sequels.
They lost me at “things were taken out”
Directors cuts should add not take off 🤦♂️
Tend to lean more towards the Director's cut these days as the bit where Parker talking about the size of the Alien makes much more sense when he runs into the room, also the cocoon scene makes more sense when Parker says there's no blood from where Dallas was taken.
I'm all for cuts adding things back in, but LOATHE trims, removals and alternate takes – that scene with Ripley talking to Dallas is a pretty important scene.
people loved to hate on covenant and their supposed dumb crew, especially when oram looked directly into the egg and not knowing what was inside…but why no issue when kane looked into the ovomorph when he literally noticed a living creature moving inside of it (unlike oram). also the lack of urgency from kane when the facehugger attached itself to his friend, no quarantine either? I'd argue the crew of nostromo are more dumb than covenant and prometheus combined
I don’t understand why Director’s Cuts means an entirely “different” movie from the theatrical version? The only thing, the Directors Cut adds, which I wish was in the “normal theatrical cut” was the Lambert slapping Ripley, the Cocoon scene, and Brett’s extended death scene. I don’t get why they had to cut out multiple scenes and make scenes shorter for the extended cut? Just add the “extended/directors cut” scenes to the original and call it a day lol. Why ruin the original by making a completely different version?
Been a huge Alien fan since I saw this movie when I was a kid, never liked the idea of the Alien cocooning people for the purpose of turning them into eggs. Always assumed they were eaten and much preferred James Camerons take on where the eggs came from much better, feels better than turning the victims into wall eggs. Even Scott preferred the original to the directors cut.
I always thought of the Alien looking at Jones was a mutual respect that cats are a predator and probably because the alien didn’t deem it a treat it was a passing nod of respect
14:50 " one FELL swoop, not "foul"
I would like to see a special edition trilogy, alien 1, 2, & 3 with all the deleted scenes put back in.
I downloaded the script and realized that between the theatrical, DC and deleated scenes, the whole script had been shot. I painstakingly created a complete version. I couldnt give it away for free. Its my favorite version.
My wife and I have both seen this film multiple times before. I can't recall which version we had previously watched but when we viewed the Director's Cut, she missed the xenomorph at 8:49.
Not available for streaming to Canadian
I feel cutting the “Ash is suspicious” dialogue was RSs attempt for anyone watching the new cut as their first time to be a little bit less aware/suspicious of the Ash character so as not to Telegraph the big reveal in any way.
Having seen the theatrical cut I’ll never know if that would’ve made a difference but it’s clearly the objective and would probably result in a different viewing experience, albeit slightly.
5:57 Just got to see this movie (theatrical cut) in a theater for the first time. Knowing Ash is an android going into it and realizing Scott’s choice to remove the line of Ripley’s mistrust in him makes a lot of sense, as much as I loved it! The director would want to push the reveal to be a more dramatic twist and the studio would want to plant those seeds earlier so audiences wouldn’t be too confused.
Nice summary. I just watched the directors cut for the first time, after having seen the original dozens of times since I was a teenager.
I have to say I prefer the original one. It works much better as a suspense / horror movie.
This video made me fall in love with my favorite movie a second time. Thank you
I really think the ash dialogue in the original cut was to make us think Wayland knew the nostromo would be in potential alien space so they replaced their science officer with ash. Buuuut after aliens and the canon reaffirmed that Wayland had no idea about the derelict, the line was cut in 2003 to make their discovery more random
I think the few seconds where the creature is crushing Brett's head before delivering the final strike should have been included in the Director's Cut. It conveys the effortless immense strength of the xenomorph and makes Brett's death that much more dreadful.
Alright you convinced me, time to watch alien-a:r again lol
Original. DC once in a while though.
