I’m surprised he didn’t mention the absolute shithole that is the final boss fight. I already forgotten what you should do, but it is stupid, tedious, clunky, and just all around rough. The ending that comes after it is even more terrible, making that final level not worth playing. I must say that all the other levels are pretty decently enjoyable, but that final level and ending was obviously finished just 2 hours before the game launched or something. It’s not an outright terrible game, but it’s not good either and I far recommend Deadly Shadows instead.

i dont really understand your complaint for the combat because it is supposed to be futile (or illegal in expert difficulty) to fight a lot of enemies compared to just sneaking but you did make it seem as if enemies can be non-lethally knocked out even when they are coming for you so maybe i dislike it for the opposite reason
I look at this as dishonored but like a DC else world's stroy u know like set in an alternate universe but like u know and it might just be me but the free running reminds me vaugly of mirrors edge but way dumbed down thoughts ?

The game has several bad aspects, but also some good. Btw, you wanna knock a guard without killing: Not Q, but R and once the guard goes down Q instead of continuing to strike with R (kill). If you need it for the sissies, not the predators. Chapter one is more fun than it seems, but one has to scout the city and learn to find the hold E spots to move wood. Secret shared: You don't need the WRENCH for the first 4 Basso missions. Just, if you walk wrongly, then you will feel something must be missing. “Let us not be Taffers about it, and hope for a remake no longer dominated by Geralt erhh Garrett!´´

I really don't understand why you have a problem with the animations??? They're cool and quick. It's some reasonable and unique detailing that I think really helps this game stand out.

People must have a massive boner for the original games to stick their nose up at a cool stealth game when there's like none in existence.
The old games are cool but they are ancient at this point. Other than the "lore vibe" being weaker, this game is far superior in every way technically speaking. It's just weird to me that Thief fans wouldn't just appreciate a game that's basically a bow tied gift directly to them. What they need to do, give you a voucher to sleep with their sister?
If Dishonored didn't exist and have extra killing options to make it more Hollywood, people would be praising this game for its stealth genre purity, heralding it as the torch bearer of the stealth genre or some shit.
What else is there? Splinter Cell and Metal Gear Solid?? Yeah, this game is sick af. Sorry it didn't let you be a stealth super soldier :'(
If this game had been released instead of Deadly Shadows at the time, people would have been begging Thief Reboot to take THEIR sisters into a dark alley.

I know the video is 7 years old but with the animations i agree its so annoying.
I've never played any of the original Thief games, so I don't have the experience or expectations as other fans of the series.
I'll admit, the 2014 game had a lot of flaws. The story was dry and didn't make much sense and the enemies were pretty mindless. HOWEVER, I did love the dark atmosphere, the stealth, the equipment, and the many treasures you could collect. Seriously, the jewelry and paintings were really beautiful. So, yeah, I had fun with game, but I understand it could've been done WAY better.
I'm really enjoying this game so far. Think it's because I played Unreal 2 not to long ago and that killed my dopamine levels so hard that anything I play after that is a masterpiece.
This game runs better on AMD cards since the update that included the Mantle API

I absolutely could not stand the character of Erin. She seemed to suffer from this bizarre condition where she would consistently say stuff just to sound epic and dramatic, whether or not it actually made any sense. My favorite example of this is when she practically spells out to Garrett that she wants him to visit the asylum, then as soon as he actually gets there she goes "you shouldn't be here". Bitch what?
I feel like no matter what eidos Montréal did was going to be disappointing compared to the originals and even as a standalone game I found the story muddled and confusing or just plain lame at times
Theif 2 is the real masterpiece. They should jsut remake it with modern tech. Also if you get in combat in a theif game you are doing it wrong.

His complaint on the combat made no sense..the point of the game is to avoid and stealthily dispatch your enemies…if they created a combat that you could dispatch your enemies then I will defeat the purpose of stealth mechanics and the point of the game.

Respectfully, I totally disagree with your review of this game, and it really highlights how one person can hate a game that another person really enjoys. This is truly one of my favorite games of recent years. Your review reminds me why I always take reviews with a grain of salt and always form my own opinion of a game.
I found the atmosphere and graphics to be amazing, the sound superb, and the gameplay a lot of fun, especially playing at night. I have also been a fan of the Thief series from the very first one, so maybe I come in with a bit of bias.

This doesn't feel like a Thief game. It feels like a mish-mash of Dishonored, and the Arkham games.

In earlier games I had to wait for the targets to wobble, whimper and sloooooooooowly fall to the ground : i.e. they too have to run through a full animation before they can be picked up and stashed out of sight. I agree about the quantity vs quality of loot, however, and the story is bollocks.
A small change that I think could game made stealing much better (and helped solved the long animations issue): limited storage space. Rather than just taking stuff and converting it to gold, you see the value of it and decide if it's worth the added space/weight. Most small things would be practically worthless, but stealing chalices, jewelry, art, etc. would give significantly better value for its size. You should be able to see what you've collected in your inventory and drop things you don't want to make more space for better loot. It would have helped make players actually THINK about what they want to pick up versus what they should leave behind. Increase the value of better loot to balance everything out, have the player sell it at black market merchants in exchange for gold, and then continue with the upgrade system as it is.
All this would allow for that immersive aspect of physically grabbing each item while also significantly reducing the time players waste doing so.
