Personally i think cats shine their brightest in an only cat setting but you have to work normal hours and not be a social butterfly who needs to hit the pub everyday. Close to two hours of actual interaction and over 8 hours of simply knowing you're around including sleeping, should be enough.
If you are a retiree, unless you're a rescue activist there's almost no reason to run the risk of multiple cats that hate each other and their owners – and there's no way to really know this until you went ahead and got them. Seniors should get one cat, make it your baby for the next 15 plus years, and make your home its blissful haven.
If you just love the sight of two furballs romping, adopting a bonded pair is probably wiser than getting cats in increments.
When I added a cat they have not always gotten along with the resident cat. Recently I adopted bonded a sibling pair and they are a joy. They do seem happier.
My mom is 77 years old and the kitten has saved her life so to speak. My mom lives on her own but can’t play with the kitten (7months) like she needs to and I work full time. I try on the weekends to play with the kitten but it’s not enough. Her apartment complex will not allow two kittens but we may sneak another one in. I feel so sorry for the kitten we have every toy and cat trees but she is bored. Please help. I have her harnessed trained somewhat and she loves to go outside but it’s too cold right now.
Our cat has only ever had me and then my hubby. She would hate to share us and her space 🙂 She has never destroyed the house etc. She is definately an only "furchild"
After had 2 cats (20+) years, one finally died and the other got really lonely. So, we had an opportunity to get 2 girls from the same litter, so we did. The old guy perked up and lived for another year or so but he too did finally pass on. We now have the 2 sisters and they are inseparable. No issues and very affectonate. Not looking forward to when one of them finally does pass on…
I've had 2 cats for 12 years in one of them passed. My girl didn't seem to care. Though you're one year prior I brought a new bee into the house and my girl hated him. A year later today she still hated him. Keep in mind that her brother or litter mate is now gone. Because she decided to get aggressive with the little guy, I did find him a much better home. He now has friends. The problem is my female is so flipping needy. She is up my butt.
We’ve always had one cat, but then our last cat seemed very neurotic and stressed all the time. After having an in-home consultation and visit with Jackson Galaxy from “My Cat from Hell” on National Geographic Channel, he suggested trying a new cat or kitten. We adopted a new black kitten and after a careful introduction process that has taken some time, the two cats are now mutually grooming, playing, eating together and sleeping together. They have bonded wonderfully and we are so happy we got a second cat. That said, it was a lot of work and at times very stressful.
Man you took so long to get to the point I just turned it off.
I bought a new rug and there was something about it that my cat kept pooping on it.I had to take the rug up and the cat went back to using the litter boxes.
In my opinion the best thing to get are two kittens or younger cats that are of the same litter .
One cat or two..the bottom line is: don’t get a cat if you have no time to play with it, pet it, let it sit on your lap, or give it attention.
I've been wondering for a very long time if my cat Ozzy who's 6 months old that I found outside wanted a friend every time I come home the toilet paper roll is destroyed and on top of that he acts like I've been gone for years and attacks me and then only wants to play and he plays nonstop all night and sleeps with me and cuddles with me For the longest time I was wondering maybe I should get him a friend so hes not so attached where he misses me when I'm gone. Cause it's this exact signs of separation anxiety. This video solved that question I will be getting a new cat after Christmas thank you so much. It looks like I'm gonna have a boyana girl cat.
I initially read the thumbnail title as, "Are indoor cats happier in Paris?"
Depends on the cat. Some cats are social an some cats are not. Some cats love having their sibling to play and snuggle with (or with another adopted cat). However, most senior cats prefer not to be bothered by a newly adobted cat or kitten. And again, a healthy senior cat might benefit from a lively kitten. It is very individual from cat to cat.
I seriously doubt that my Maine Coon Loki would welcome another cat here. At the shelter he lived in a large room cage with 12 other cats. He hated it so much he had to be moved to a smaller split level cage, From what I've seen he relates more to humans.
I adopted 2 brothers from the same mother back in December 2021 from Naples Humane Society…Alvin and Theordore…these guys LOVE playing together and preening each other…so glad I did it! I work full time so am glad they have each other for company from Mon to Fri!

My 1 year old cat ran away 4 days ago, now my 7month kitten has been meowing a lot lately, I feel really bad, he prolly doesn’t even know he ran away, prolly thinks I took him away
My cat. Is not gonna share me. With anyone period. She loves being by herself. Another cat came in before. And she didn't like it at all. She wanted to fight.
One cat per person in household
I've had a brother sister couple since birth and they are a year and a half old now. Well you seem one you seen the other until recently last week I lost the male cat because evidently he swallowed something like a bird or something big and I found him in the morning dead. My female is now driving me crazy because she misses her brother even more than I do. I was devastated when this happened because I love these cats with all my heart. Try to replacement mail one and a half years old and it didn't work. Any suggestions welcomed
