I've had two Red Dobies and eveything these guys have said about these dogs is spot on. During over 80 years of having great dogs the two Dobies were the smartest, best dogs I've ever had. But watch out for heart issues.

I would never own a Doberman because I don't feel that I could master one, plus I love Boxers. However, in the spring and summer of 1973 while I was in USMC boot camp MCRD San Diego, we went on one company run with our perfect Colonel leading us. He had a Dobie on each hand. Talk about cool, awesome, inspiring and most of all Marine, 1st Mar Div, 1st Battalion A Company Platoon 1048. As we were running, I thought to myself when I'm discharged, I will own 2 Dobies. Never happened. Also, about 3 or 4 months ago, here in Colorado a man breeding Dobermans and selling them for around $4,500.00 per pup was murdered and 10 of his pups were stolen. He was in the hills around Idaho Springs. They caught the murderer. I'd like to say I love all dogs but I don't. My favorites first are Boxers, but I really think the most affectionate of all the dogs I've seen and I'm 69 years old is the smallest Yorkie one can buy. The one that fits in the palm of your hand.

You said you do a lot of hiking with your dog, how to they respond to critters in the woods of around the backyard? I would be afraid of my dog running off to go chase a squirrel or lets say a rabbit.
Would you consider an episode highlighting the "Dobie Rescue Network" around the country? Here in California we have 2 pretty large rescue ranches. 1 in nor Cal and 1 in So Cal. Both run by people who spent a life time trying to save this dog.
