In case this helps someone, I had to kill 7 Bisharps that were all pack leaders. The only thing I can think of is that I didn't do them in a row (I was killing other mobs in between to reset spawns using my Bisharp). I captured 3 in a row, though, and nothing. Odd. It wasn't until I killed 3 in a row with nothing in between that the evolution occurred. YMMV. /shrug

Hey quick question, can a pawniard who wasn’t a leader before still evolve into a kingambit? I’m really hoping so because I caught a shiny 1 after an hour

Anyone seeing this comment: You can breed one up from a pawniard and have it complete this method, you don’t necessarily have to catch a bisharp holding a leader’s crest. Every video I saw repeated that same info they read online

this isn't working for me. I choose the bisharp with the brood of pawniard. my guyis holding the crest and net I keep getting pawniard blades.

I got the wrong ability
I had a bisharp with a leaders crest and i defeated 3 bisharps with leaders crest but it didnt evolve, so i tried with a bisharp that wasnt holding a leaders crest and it still didnt work.

My evolution of Bisharp is better. He’s faster and stronger. Takes out his chakrams on his body and uses it as a giant chakram throwing sword
U could just give him a quick claw to make him outspeed a good fraction of the time instead of going through the trouble of getting sucker punch
I personally went for more bulk by investing the Evs into health and special defense instead of speed in order to make it more well rounded in terms of bulk instead. I also gave it leftovers for extra survivability. King ambit is already plenty strong attack wise and if he’s gonna be your last Pokémon you gotta keep him alive for as long as you can.
116 hp / 252 attack / 140 special defense
I also feel like another build that would work well has the same ev spread and nature but holding leftovers with the moves

Thanks for the tip Abdallah, about evolving Bisharp. I couldn't find a way to do it, but now I know how to do it.
My Bisharp wasn't a good enough level to kill em or had the moves.
I false swipped with my higher lvl pokemon and let Bisharp KO it
Still works; You don't need that Leader's Crest Item at all. You just need to KO the ones with the mini ones surrounding him.

I was in Master ball tier before in Sword and Shield VGC, and here are just some of my thought on the build. I don't think you might be building it wrong. We shouldn't EV train Kingambit's speed stat at all. Especially he is one of the slowest Pokémon. By doing that, you are pretty much wasting all the valuable stats because it gets out speed by other sweepers anyway. To make Kingambit viable in competitive, I'm assuming is double, you need to run him with brave nature, zero IV on speed and a trick room set. This way you won't get 1 shot before putting out some damage.
This is late but you don't need the leader's crest. I beaten three leader bisharp without it and evolve, you can test it out yourself for proof.

As a note, for egg moves, there's A held item called a mirror herb and if it's being held be a pokemon with an open move slot and you go into a picnic with another pokemon that knows an egg move, the pokemon with the held item can learn the egg move!
