I feel like there's always been this weird stigma around Harry Potter, even predating the JK Rowling trans controversies. When I was a kid and the books were really popular, before the movies even existed, there were book burnings by angry Christian moms who thought that Harry Potter was brainwashing children into using witchcraft and that it was a mark of the devil. Then when the movies became popular and fans like me started cropping up, Potter was touted as "Star Wars for lazy spoiled white millennials". It was considered nerdy and cringey to be a Harry Potter fan. It was perfectly fine to be a Star Wars fan, heck it was fine to be a Star Trek fan or a D&D fan. But Harry Potter was seen as being as bad as being a Disney Adult is now. As a matter of fact, Potter fans and Disney Adults do seem to have a lot in common, but that's besides the point. Point is, Potter fans could never win. Us millennials finally got something that we loved and cherished that wasn't made for Gen X or the Boomers, and we got crapped all over for it. Call me a conspiracy nut, but I feel like if any other generation outside of millennials had been given Harry Potter, there wouldn't be as much controversy with it. It's only when millennials like something that it's considered bad. And now with the Hogwarts Legacy stuff, Potter fans FINALLY getting a GOOD Harry Potter game after years of getting nothing but complete and utter garbage in that regard, now we're getting crapped on for that as well. Potter fans will never win. Shit at this point, Twilight fans have a better chance of getting a beloved video game franchise that everyone praises than Potter fans do of even being allowed to play a game without having slurs thrown their way.
