True about the personality with tuxedo cats. I have three cats. Alll are awesome in their own way. I have an all black cat, and a tuxedo cat They are from the same litter. My tuxedo is super, super sweet and sleeps with us every night. To where the black cat sleep alone on the couch. Definitely different personalities. Although they grew up in the same house.
I have two male orange cats who are the typical orange personalities, friendly, easy going, lap cats who enjoy play but aren't overy enamored of it and they are both easily spooked. We have had 4 tuxedo cats over the years. The most notable traits I've found with my tuxedos have been high energy, friendly to people but not lap cats, very playful, territorial behavior and fearlessness. In fact the male tuxedo that passed away last year was very high energy. He was actually labeled "high energy" by the shelter we got him from 8 years prior to that. He loved to run up and down the stairs with very loud footsteps. He didn't like the female cat that we had and tried to keep her out of his territory. He was also more playful than our other cats and particularly seemed to enjoy hunting play. He was also pretty fearless – almost nothing frightened him, not a person walking fast in his direction or another cat. By accident another tuxedo (this one female) landed in our lives a few months after the male passed. Her personality was surprisingly similar. She does that same "I'm coming!" loud stepping up and down the stairs. She tries to keep the orange boys out of the areas she has designated as hers (even though she is half their size). She has lots of energy, she loves to play and also has the same fearless courage that our last tuxedo had. While one of the tuxedos we have had in the past would sit in my husband's lap occasionally, and the current tuxedo follows me to bed at night and stays in bed next to me until I fall asleep, none of the others have been lap cats but all of them were friendly. I would say all 4 tuxedos were high energy cats.
Just adopted a tuxedo black and white with his sister, a calico 2 months ago. Both are very funny and sweet, but the tuxedo is much more daring and gets himself in trouble with his do now think later attitude. His sister spends lots of time just mesmerized by his antics! She thinks things through, but she's close on his heals. They love each other so much that they will squeeze into one of their cat beds to spend the night together and clunk heads as they eat out of one food bowl instead of each using their own. God love them!❤
I don’t get the fact about adoption. I adopted my tuxedo cat when he was three months old and he has never been any trouble. A great personality, loves attention. I love him dearly
I've been a "cat lady" since I was a toddler. I currently have three strays that rescued me. One is a classic tuxedo named Eddie after Eddie Vedder. He is one of the the smartest, most personable, most wanting to please cats I have have ever shared my life with. I could write a book about the tricks he has taught me. A delightful rascal
I have 8 cats, all rescues. Only one is a tuxedo. I trapped her and her 6 babies. All are friendly extroverts, but the tuxedo, the Mom, is such a cuddly sweetheart! I'm so glad they live with me. My life is 8 times happier.
Our tuxedo cat adopted us. He's mostly an outdoor cat, but we let him in the house, too. He's is the sweetest, most loving cat. My husband calls him our cat/dog. He comes when called and follows my husband around. My husband, who doesn't even like cats, fell in love with this little guy and even cut a cat door in the side of his pole barn.
Tuxedos are literally dogs. I’ve had 6
Mr Tux was incredibly smart, very attached to me, and Simply was a presence in the household. He was very attuned to people coming in the house. Where many cats would run and hide when someone came in he was right in their faces. Not always welcoming, he would often his and Swype with them, but never actually hurt them. but clearly he needed to demonstrate his dominance. He was particularly more so with men. When I moved from a condo to my house and got him a kitty door, and he had access to the outside whenever he wanted, his territorial behavior significantly decreased. He was loving and playful. even though he was spayed as a young kitten parentheses I got him at the age of three months at the shelter and parentheses, it didn’t seem to stop him having an active libido. He was quite interested in females in heat, had a stuffed toy cat that he regularly humped and bit, and carried around the house, and often roam to the neighborhood seeking at his girlfriends. He was very affectionate. He often would put his paw up and touch my face, staring into my eyes and prefer to sleep next to me even during the day. I lost him when he was age 15 to the kidney disease. And I miss him terribly. He was one of many cats that I’ve had, but he was the most special cat of all of them. If I do decide to get another cat, it will definitely be a tuxedo.
0:09 that is the same coloured cat I have
i’m a black cat person but would have a tuxedo cat and Domestic Shorthair, Maine Coon, Ragdoll, British Shorthair, Siamese, Bengal, Persian, Sphynx, Scottish Fold, Abyssinian and any kinds of cat
Thank you for such an intelligent and obviously well-researched video. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The kitty that brings me here is my master, and I am a very real slave. I got my boy when he could fit in my palm, but even then, we all knew he was going to be ridiculously high-maintenance. He bites, his sharp claws his go-to self-introduction, or he may simply ignore you but to “I’ll take that cat food over here and be quick about it”. When I pick him up, he deftly rolls onto his back so he can insert his dew claws into my neck while he tries to suck on my ears. No one else seems to be lucky with him this in this manner. Finally, this boy constantly struggles with matting due to a thick undercoat. When his mats get out of control, they cause him pain and he gets mean. 😂 I’m gonna leave that there… I usually take him to the vet and beg for them to put him out so they can shave him. Next week I’m considering bathing him. But I’m worried this will make the matting much worse. But the aging tuxedo or cow is not bathing himself. He’s also got frequent loose bowels due to age.
This is a very long winded question about tuxs/cows commonly having a bad attitude? Anything to support that?
Thanks for your efforts and a great video.
I have a Tuxedo cat, and he is really loyal. He always protects me, and sometimes he just wants to look at me. He also understands what I want—such an intelligent being! He is truly royal, and that's exactly how he should be treated. 👑🐈⬛
Mr Tux was the most intelligent cat I ever owned. He was brilliant at accessing his treats, no matter where I hid them. Cabinet over the microwave above the stove? Maybe took him a few weeks. I moved them to the door of the fridge! HA! Took him a few months this time but I came home to an open fridge and kitty treats ripped open on the floor.
My son moved in and he immediately made his displeasure known by peeing on the bed. But I underestimated his long game.. because every morning he sat outside the door waiting to run in. My son furiously refused to let him stay in his room and repeat the sacrilege.. He immediately grabbed the kitty treats and shook that bag to get Mr Tux to come out of his bedroom. Which of course Mr Tux did, thereby earning a morning treat. And I stood back and simply laughed that in one day he had trained my son to give him a treat every single morning. Absolutely brilliant!!
He was a lovey-dovey, and always wanted to sit with me and sleep with me at night. Even though he was spayed, he seemed to have an active sex life. I had a black-and-white stuffed cat that was his toy that he carried around, and left at the door when I was gone to await my return. He also humped it in the middle of the night yowling like a cat in heat . And since he had a kitty door, he could go out when he chose and at night I swear he went to visit his girlfriends down the block. And occasionally a female cat in the heat would wander into the yard, and he would stalk her with great interest. If I ever get another cat, it’ll be a tuxedo.
He had such a great personality —my friends remember him with fondness. Sadly, he died from kidney disease when he was 15. But he was a wonderful companion. I
Bro, who's here on June 25th 2025😅
I have a Tuxedo boy and he is the most affectionate and most chaotic cat I've ever owned. He loves to cuddle and show affection and he also likes to knock things off counters and knock over trashcans as well as chase and bite his sisters,(The oldest of his two older sisters will eventually bite him back and make him cry).
Hubby an I adopted Daisy 2 yrs ago. She was 6 then an we lost our Honey just a week before. Daisy is wonderful and made herself right a home
3:10 yup, this on on the middle top, same 3 months-4 – i got same <3 she is so adorable and lovely…
I had orange tuxedo 😊
My tuxedo, Mozzi, has a few very distinguished character traits. She sleeps at the foot of my bed every night. She’s a bit more territorial than the other cats but I like to think of it as fierce loyalty. Funny enough she is the boss cat (over two males that are much bigger than her). She is extremely playful and an excellent hunter. She’s also my most vocal of my 3 cats. Curiosity and playfulness seem to be her most defining traits. I’m so thankful that I was able to adopt her <3 she is about 7 years old now and I hope to have many more good years with her.
Ours is called BILKO and loves being cuddled!
What about red tabby and white? Does that count as Tuxedo?
it's different in China. we dont have the conception with tuxedo cat, we call it milk cow cat. and we dont care their patterns, just black and write = we call it milk cow cat. so intersting
my tuxedo is gray and so friendly and has 3 legs so i agree
I adopted a tuxedo cat three weeks ago, he is so smart but refuses to drink water out of a fountain, he drinks out of the bathroom sink
The two tuxedo cats I've had in my life both were super docile affectionate and snuggly. My grey tabbies have been more on the feisty side
Tuxedo not just for cats, is a pattern of a domesticated animal, dogs/horse/hamster/rat will do had this pattern
I really enjoyed this video thank you! I just foster failed two tuxedos a gray girl and a black boy 🙂
"And then you have other (ha!) CATegorizations…" Well said. My benevolent overlords are a Tuxie and a Cow Cat (?). I've only recently noticed that term. In any case, as I like to say, "No one cat is alike". Thanks for this great content and keep up the good work!
My impression is that black was the dominant trait and that the white is the inferior trait and the result of mixing. So it started with a black cat before generating into b&w tuxedo.
I raised my little girl cause Mom wasn't lactating. She was the most adorable creature in the world to me. Such a "Good Girl" with best behavior anyone could ever hope for. However, she did sometimes howl out of loneliness. 😢
Love your video and I have had consistently tuxedo cats that have all been (in my opinion) loyal and buddy-like in a way that far exceeds cats with different patterns. For example my tuxedo boy walks with me like a dog off leash in the city and stays so close it’s like he is “heeling”.
Interesting to hear other people’s experience, too! Thank you again
My tuxedo cat has playfully with me. She’s very loyal for a six-year-old.❤
Solid colour? It's just faint tabby.
#10. They have crazy dry cleaning bills.
