Contrary to popular belief, I did a little research on the whole Rare Microsoft fiasco.
Rare actually got sick of Nintendo restricting their games. They were set for a Zelda-like game with a fox character on a planet populated with dinosaurs called, "Dinosaur Planet". Nintendo noticed the similarities between this and Star Fox and this turned into the infamous Star Fox Adventures (which was a fine game….not being a hard Star Fox fan, myself). This was the straw that broke the camel's back. As such, Rare and Nintendo parted ways. Nearly bankrupt, Microsoft swooped down and saved Rare from extinction.
I always thought Perfect Dark was better than Golden Eye. PD was like GE, except since it was released after, it had the problems fixed that GE had. Personal opinion, but I loved Perfect Dark

I'm sorry but rare will never be the same as they were on Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64 those games relied on simple concepts and contained challenge that modern gamers don't have the patience for anymore, Rare is a lost cause

I'm working on a game concept similar to Banjo-Kazooie/Tooie. A character named Buttons the Cat strives to make a video game. In order to do it, he has to travel through a bunch of different worlds centered around gaming tropes and clichés, making fun of FPSes, space shooters, open world city games like GTA, zombie apocalypse games, indie/retro games, etc.

Killer Instinct could become a "mature" fighter. I think they should consider moving some of their ip into the 15 dollar digital only range and put out a kart game and battletoads. They could develop them faster, make a smaller profit, but without the risk of colossal failure at the AAA range.
I think it's a matter of shifting what rare does to a more casual (digital marketplace) than jamming AAA titles into already crowded shelves.
Rareware is dead.
