How to lock in your Xfinity rate for 5 years, get unlimited data, and score a free mobile line

Comcast has overhauled its home internet plans with price guarantees that will keep the cost from rising for as long as five years. Aimed at both new and existing subscribers, the new plans also add unlimited data, a free Xfinity WiFi Gateway, and a free year of Xfinity Mobile.

Announced on Thursday, the plans are available in 12 different variations depending on the price lock and the speed you choose. But it’s not as complicated as it may sound.

Comcast’s new Xfinity home internet plans

For download speed, you can choose among 300 Mbps, 500 Mbps, 1 Gbps, and 2 Gbps. You’ll then need to pick the duration for your price lock. Here, Comcast is offering three options: a one-year lock, a five-year lock, and no lock at all. The everyday price with no lock is the most expensive variation, with the five-year lock cheaper and the one-year lock the least expensive of the three.

For example, choose the 1 Gbps plan and you’ll pay $100 for the everyday price with no lock, $85 for the five-year lock, and $70 for the one-year lock. The icing on the cake is that the one-year and five-year plans don’t saddle you with a contract, so you’re not handcuffed into them for the duration.

The revamped plans are immediately available for new subscribers who sign up with Comcast. Existing subscribers can remain with their current plan until it’s time to renew or they decide to switch.

The extra perks included

As for the extra perks, the Xfinity WiFi Gateway is a combination modem/router with built-in cybersecurity protection, parental controls, and other features. You can manage the gateway using the new Xfinity app for iOS or Android.

The free Xfinity Mobile plan provides coverage for one mobile line for a full year with no fees or taxes. The Xfinity Mobile access includes 5G data, unlimited calls and texts, Wi-Fi Powerboost, a personal hotspot, Wi-Fi calling, and unlimited international calls and texts.

“We said we were going to go ‘all-in’ on a new pricing strategy and we are delivering with our 5-year price lock and our new everyday price plans,” Steve Croney, chief operating officer for Connectivity & Platforms at Comcast, said in a news release. “Now all our Xfinity Internet packages are built on simplicity and transparency — no hidden fees, no confusion.”
