I'm glad someone is saying positive things about Chris Pratt voicing mario, personally I prefer mario with a New York accent like the TV show. I don't want him sounding to energetic like he usually sounds in the video games, it would sound too jarring.

The real reason why people have an issue with Chris Prat voicing Mario is because Chris Prat has no voice acting experience. Since Chris Prat just acts like himself, instead of a fictional character. People wouldn't have an issue with the Mario trailer, if they actually got the original voice for Mario or tried to find a VA that fits the role of an italian plumber. The reason why Ben Shwartz as Sonic worked is because Ben has voice acting experience, since he has voiced characters such as Randy Cunnigham 9th Grade Ninja & Dewey from the Ducktakes reboot. People like to watch & see fictional characters being voiced by people that fit the role of the character.
I think the issue lies with the fact that Hollywood just tries too hard to bank on the success of the MCU, so it's reasons like this why they keep casting Chris Prat & Tom Holland in other projects, despite the fact that the two actors have no voice acting experience. They would have avoided this if they actually tried & managed to get the original voice for Mario to voice himself in the film or find a different voice actor that can actually do a good job voicing an italian plumber. The reason why Sonic The Hedgehog movie worked is becaise the voice for Sonic Ben Shwartz has actual voice acting experience, since he did voice characters such as Randy Cunnigham 9th Grade Ninja & Dewey from Ducktales reboot. Sure, it would have been sweet to have Jason Griffith return, but Ben Shwartz wasn't a bad casting choice either. People want voice actors that fit the roles of the characters they play as. Chris Prat just acts like himself, not as a fictional character.
