Alien and Aliens are Brilliant Films I am a Defender of Alien 3 it’s Deeply Underrated the Story is a Masterpiece
Paul McGann was Brilliant as Golic in Alien 3
💚 ALIEN 3
Confirmed! Hicks survived!
Though I still personally think the Special Edtion is the best and definitive version(imo) this version is incredibly interesting.
I like Alien3 a very great deal. For pure psychological horror it is impossible to beat Alien, for all-out SF action then Aliens cannot be beaten. The second sequel had to be different again, which upset a lot of people.
I have never gone along with the disparagement from those who effectively wanted nothing more than an Aliens2. But what could have been done differently or better than Cameron already gave us? Incrementally better SFX, more action scenes and more colonial marine hardware I suppose. But… nothing new. Instead they made the right decision. The pacing, the mood, the subtext are all absolutely different in Alien3. Ripley still triumphs over an alien, but she does so through the ultimate sacrifice. It is the polar opposite to her going hand-to-hand with a queen in a mech suit!
The setting itself is so fascinating as well. The prison factory is absolutely immense, yet it is all-but totally deserted. It is 'all the basement'. One really gets the sense of hundreds or thousands of miles of tunnels all in darkness, or close to it and all where the alien might be hiding, The prison is almost a character in its own right!
Part of me would have loved to see Fincher's original vision all the same. The wooden artificial planetoid and its monks without any technology… That would have been a fascinating setting.
The music, the character acting, the sets… Alien3 is a powerful film.
While I prefer the Director Cut version of Alien 3, I prefer the ending of the theatrical version where the Queen emerge from Ripley chest
They never should have killed off Newt and Hicks.
The editing out of the trapping of the alien was the clumsiest but if editing I’ve ever seen. I’d read the book before seeing it in the theatre and that made it even worse. We spoke to Alan Dean Foster at a comic con just prior to the film’s release and he wasn’t very complimentary.
It's a weird feel to discover these scenes with the environment sounds because the music was all I can hear usually.
This workprint in and of itself really shows the original vision of David Fincher. It is grimy, grisly, and at the same time beautiful for a horror film that it was supposed to be. It reminds me of Lucio Fulci who made hideous and terrifying cinema filled with moments of anxious, haunting silence and terror when horror abounded. Hollywood producers turned this into a sci-fi action movie that removed the terror out of the horror excising that quality that would have made this movie even legendary.
New Rock shoes. Weer those in the next sequel?
Maybe the reason they left out the scream, which I agree is a great scream, is to leave it ambiguous that maybe the Xenomorph was speaking to Golic. The alien gave him an instantentaneous, painless death for his obedience, as opposed to one of fear and agony that it gives everyone else, as a reward for Golic's devotion.
エイリアン3 ビジュアル最高👍👍👍✨🤩✨✨✨ 美術クオリティースゴイ👍👍👍✨😁
Hey dude I know you might not see this but do you have a link to the space beast video from this channel? It was my favorite video of yours super well made I’d like to relisten to it
If you are 20th Century Fox why even make this version of Alien 3, I mean all 3 or 4 versions out there. I like the movie generally but yeah, its got problems. Why give it to a first time director with only music video film experience and this be his first film? It just doesn't make a lot of sense to me. If you couldn't tell the story you wanted to tell from the beginning why even bother. I think fans hate this more for all the hope it was going to bring, especially after T2 just rocked it up a notch. IDK. I still will watch the Legacy cut but this movie is visually beautiful. But I think from conception to inception to release, to re-release this movie is and was a trainwreck. No wonder Fincher doesn't wanna come back to fix it. There is NO fixing it really. Its an oddity. And what they did in Resurrection is even more head scratching.
I didn't know about actual footage of a workprint version and I like it hear the scenes without the music (although the Goldenthal's score is phenomenal). I think the extended dialogue between Michael Bishop and Ripley should have been in the movie and the "for the last time" phrase.
Just rewatched Alien 3, pretty cool to see it’s still getting love. Flawed movie but a masterpiece nonetheless
Is the Workprint available anywhere online? I'd love to see it. Alien 3 is my absolute favorite of the entire franchise and I want to see every iteration of it that I can get my grubby little mits on.
Such an underrated movie. Love the darkness and the runner is the best xeno. So aggressive! Top video mate
The scene where ripley considers getting saved should have been kept
This is your 426th video. Enjoy the milestone while it lasts!
"Kill me, kill me !" amongst other scenes needs to be put back in. Fincher needs to finish this movie.
Worst movie in the franchise
By the way all these BTS cuts of the chestburster are creepier than anything we got in the film.
The workprint is the creepiest version of the film, honestly.
The egg was a late reshoot because originally it seemed like the intention was to portray the alien as more of a mystery and a nightmare, maybe as a remnant of the wooden station script
Some of this stuff is absolutely incredible.
9:30 Connecting this singular body to the slightly different intro sequence, could it be that in this version of Alien 3, Hicks never made it onto the planet's surface in the escape pod?
Fascinating video! 👍👍👍
I’m so glad they left out that trailer line tbh. It feels like an Aliens line, not befitting Alien3. Doesn’t quite fit for me, and it’s not necessary.
Wow. That version of the final scene with Ripley and Temu Bishop is the one they should have used. She was perfect. "No." Wow.
You did it again Alien Theory… I'm forced to reflect. I rewatched Alien 3 and Dillon's death scene is the one that always hit's me the hardest. We know he can't win, he knows he can't win but he dies hard and it's impossible not to respect. Charles S Dutton really "did the damn thing" in that scene.
"Pour the lead" haunts me "Is that all you got!"
Thank you AT!
I love to see this stuff, especially concerning the third film, you can tell there is soooooo much more that was cut out and of course some for better or worse.
I loved Alien 3 I watched it as a kid and it was terrifying to me just as much as the first and second but something was different about this one it was more dark and Gothic and grimy and the way that that Xenomorphs Sprints like speed is terrifying
I'm so curious as to what Fincher couldve cooked up with had he not been subject to so much meddling
That extra stuff with the company is really cool and matches better.
I didn't even know about this! Cool. I like 'Romulus', but the producers should get creative with who they hire as directors again. It's crazy to think of someone like Jeunet, Fincher and, in another world, Vincent Ward, being chosen based on their then early work.
Alien 3 was a fine film with an excellent film to be found via a hybrid of the Theatrical and Assembly cuts (the xenomorph hatching from a dog is better than an ox to explain the runner etc). I believe at the time Michael Biehn wanted too much money to return so the producers decided he should be written out and the actress who played Newt was too old, so there were practical problems. Also too many people expected Aliens 2 (action movie) rather than a return to horror roots. Another "problem" for Alien 3 was it came out the same year as Terminator 2 but after and both had a climactic furnace scene (which was commented on in reviews for not being very "original").
I still find it weird they decided to set Alien Romulus between Alien and Aliens and thus create timeline continuity issues for themselves. They could have easily set Romulus after Alien 3 (but way before Alien Resurrection) without even changing the story. Weyland Yutani missed out on xeno samples when LV-426 was nuked in Aliens. Then lost out again when Ripley dived into the furnace in Alien 3. So last throw of the dice, go seek the wreckage of the Nostromo to find any other remnants of Xeno.
Ahhh! This solves a longtime mystery for me – the contemporary review of the film in Cinefantastique magazine talks about Spike the dog, but also the Golic/dragon stuff. I always presumed there must have been a prerelease version that included both those elements, and here it is!
That extra bit of Ripley working through in her mind whether to go or stay is a 100% David Fincher and there is no way it wouldn't be in his cut if he would ever make one. He did the exact same thing in Se7en with Brad Pitt so I can't see him not wanting it.
Guys, have you seen this?

Beneath London: the story of Alien War.
Fantastic! 🙂
Happy belated Alien Day!
Has a creepy found footage aesthetic
On another note: I always thought it was crazy for that guy to pick up that queen face hugger with his bare hands (or even if he was wearing gloves). Who the hell would even think about picking up such a scary looking carcass?
Most of these things feel utterly disposable, but I do wish that the Assembly Cut had gone with Ripley's more remorseful rejection of Bishop's offer. It certainly didn't need to go on for such a long stretch, but it's a far more sympathetic moment, and I've never cared much for the abrupt reshoot insert.
I love alien 3 I love the alien series my mom introduce me to it when I was 8 now I am 35 and still love the alien series my first alien movie I seen in theater was Alien Resurrection
