Nice detailed review. I'm not much of a handheld / mobile player, but I think if I was I would buy this, or maybe wait a little bit to see how it does over time, and then buy. It does sort of echo the Switch. While I would not pursue this device for the high end graphical visual games I'd rather see on a PC, I do think there is a big draw to playing other games like you said, such as Indie titles or others that just need more accessibility versus the demand on hardware.

Steam deck it's perfect for me,I am more of a console guy,ps5 and switch and while I have a switch mostly for indie and jrpg on the go,the steam deck it's just an easy no brainer for me to replace my switch it just cheaper in the long run over a switch

Great Review! Can’t wait for mine! I have a strong feeling that this product is going to be a huge hit, and I’m already hoping that they make a slightly more expensive model in the second generation that has maybe slightly better performance but more importantly a nice OLED screen.
Especially looking forward to games like Persona, Disco Elisium on this. Games that don’t necessarily require tons of power but would work great on the go with AirPods 🙂 gaming is so great right now!

Lately, I have been thinking about all the cool technology that we have now, and how the Steam Deck will pave the way for even more technological ideas/advancements.
Humanity has, and will continue to engineer some very amazing things.
Also, I remember, as I child, I would see cartoons with the characters having video chats, and thinking that I wouldn't ever see such incredible technology.
Now, that sort of thing is older, simple tech.

The 4K 120Hz and 8K 60Hz are obviously not going to be possible for gaming, but are rather referring to the max capability of the port itself. Those resolutions/refresh rates should be possible for video playback though, like playing from Netflix/Disney/Plex.

Even after all these years I'm glad to see that your process of doing reviews has aged like fine wine. 3:39 when any platform claims they can output 4k at 120hz (when the unit can barely get past 60fps on it's native screen) they are talking about the theoretical thoughput, and video quality. Mostly they say tha to be in compliance with HDMI v1.xx; it'a not about gaming performance.

I own a GPD Win Max, and a Switch OLED, and I can say that after experiencing OLED on a handheld, I still prefer my Switch. I don't know why these companies are still using LED technology in 2022. OLED is not this expensive shiny new thing anymore. It really should be standard by now (Even the PS Vita has an OLED display). So I'll pass on the Steam Deck, at least until valve releases an OLED version. My Win Max works perfectly fine, and it runs any game I've thrown at it, so I'm good.
