Good first impression, but please come back and finish/update your review after at least starting act 3. Because I think the game will get significantly better in the parts you've experienced as positive. Especially choices. Not only do the conversation options take account of your class or race. But the ones I really love are the ones that combine them…. example: dialogue you only see if you're playing half orc AND warlock.
The game is great at also changing the story based on these choices. I've played by myself and co-op with my wife, in which I let her do all of the speaking. I can't tell you how many times my jaw was on the floor, because I thought I knew what was going to happen, because I've played that part by myself already. Then the game just took a hard left turn 😂
Good Early takes. Very early. From an old guy who has been gaming the the days of the C64, I can say with all assurity that the game starts _good, _ as you noted, but my man, even if you miss half of the stuff, the game takes off like Space X (minus the explosions on the landing pad ;^) . If you are not blown away by the end of Act 1, just quit.
BG3 seems to go from a good game to a great game to "Oh my god, this is…are you kidding me? What th…yeah, OK, I get GotY now. Can we give out a Game of the Decade Award? Maybe best RPG ever made? Seriously, did you see that? I just…" It has so many "loss for words" moments it is befuddling. Just when you think the game has hit it's pinnacle there is something new.
Some advice for a "Good/Hero" playthrough. Save the Tieflings. Even if you have to save scum, make sure they make it to Baldur's Gate. Btw, ou can go back to ANY part of the map until you actually enter the Lower City, which includes being able to fast travel back to the Druid's Grove, Goblin Camp, secret Zhent hideout with the killer gear salesmen under Waukeen's Rest etc AFTER you hit Rivington. Once you cross the bridge into the actual city (you will know bc you have your first real encounter with a Steel Watcher). So at that point you have access to the entire Mountain Pass, the Underdark, Grymforge, and everything you have already found in the beginning of Act 1. You will not have access to the Shadowland Maps though. Not sure why but they do lock that part off even if you cure it. Which you will. Because you are doing a good/hero playthrough and save scumming that part is accepted behavior for that particular fight which can decide it all.
My first playthrough took over 270 hours. I'm a bit anal though. I read Every book, note, scrap of paper, tablet etc. while exploring EVERYTHING. A normal thorough playthrough can probably wrap up in half that amount of time, maybe a little more. Hehe, I'm actually excited to see your reaction after you finish Act 1 now as like I said, that segment is where it really, really picks up.
During third act I just cut few sidequests, it was becoming boring. And the end was utter disappoitment. I really enjoyed first and second act but still something was missing. I wanted to replay game, but I couldnt. Its just too repetitive and with knowing the end I lost interest and deem replaying as a lost time.
Dont take me wrong, I love the game, but when I realize that I replayed Dragon age Origins three times and Morrowind 4 times, Bg3 isnt like these games.
I actually liked and subscribed as a first time viewer which I don't often do. Then you lost me last 20 seconds,. You can't take the bauld shame someone if you use pronouns.
Great review 🙂
This would be so much better if characters could reach level 20 like ddo and neverwinter.
Aa a fan of the original Baldurs gate 1 & 2, I can't stand 3, it's just Divinity Original Sin 3 with a DnD coat of paint, I would like it if it was DOS3, but as soon as it tried to wear the Baldur's Gate crown it became a pretender, and it's 5th Edition, not 2.5 like originals
Same lol. I never touched a turnbased combat game ever. But BG3 won my heart so fast. It's crazy!!
Oh god, another reviewr who didn't finish the game before making review vider.
199 Subs and one hell of a well-edited video. Allow me to be your 200th
you don't really need to restart. yes maybe you miss something or a lot but i think one of the strongest merit of the game is freedom, you can literally play however you wanna play the game. even you killed some key npc, there're always backup npc or twists afaik, at least for act1 which literally tested for everything on EA.
Act 1 is perfection imo. I'm near what feels like the end of Act 2 and its still a really great time (76 hours in) Had some really great moments and cool boss fights. Make sure to comb over as much as you can before going into an area that has a warning about the area advancing the story. You can easily miss a bunch of quests. I heard Act 3 has a lot of problems but I have yet to see it. I'm playing co op with my gf and its super buggy as well (PS5 Version) Works great in single player. I really hope they fix the split screen sooner than later. (Update: new patch smoothed over a lot of split screen loading issues)
Just gotta lyk: The algorithm did you well my man. I got 90h in BG3 so far and I’m always looking for someone like you to watch. Funny, well structured and willing to try something new. Keep up the good work brother.
NEW video idea: NBA 2K24 review
And I think you completely misunderstand how quests work in this game. You can't mess up any quests, there is no right way to do things as you claim.
Unless you stop working on the quest, they resolve one way or another, will give you exp for it and will have repercussions somewhere down the line which are neither "right" or "wrong".
And the only reason side quests in act 1 or 2 feel like filler to you us that you haven't experienced their repercussions yet. Pretty much everything in this game has a consequence, many of which you might never notice or discover.
Well to adjust expectations here as someone who has almost finished it after replaying act 1 and act 2 for almost 500 hours now….
The story part is a masterpiece in act 1 and 2, but suffers from the same problem TV shows do, where they start off incredible but can't maintain the quality, a lot like Altered Carbon for example.
With the world, however, it is kind of the opposite.
You can imagine the prologue as a line, the first act as the tip of the pyramid and when you get to act 3 you are blown away how much there is to do and to see.
