If anything, this does NOT feel like a western/japanese made game. As someone who grew up watching chinese movies, adding this little animation with such heartfelt music in a game is such a departure from what we see normally in most games as this kind of cinematic storytelling is usually seen in shows or movies. Chinese movies especially have a knack of having large use of imagery accompanied by dramatic music with minimal to no dialogue to pack its punches and convey emotional tender scenes. Seeing that kind of stuff here was such a familiar touch and yet incredibly surprising that it’s in a game of all places
I dont see anyone else mentioning this in the comments but I find it interesting that the scene where Bajie saw the ladies bathing and how similar it was to another scene in another Chinese mythology called Niulang(牛郎）and zhinu(织女）literally meaning weaver girl (she was a daughter of the jade emperor but went down to the mortal world to play in secret) where Niulang chanced upon her and her sisters bathing as he fell In love with her at first sight.
i love this cutscene so much, it gives so much more depth into Baije's character and adds so much weight to the final words in chapter 4
