We have a beautiful black cat that has a higher propensity to unsheathe his claws than our other (orange) cat. But, it's not in hostility. We just have to pull our hand away to "let him know" that petting and caressing does not include use of claws! 😸
And you deserve the claws and worst from your cat and you will have it coming, remember that.
My cat was lacking all of that positive stuff from pretty much her whole life and I never did anything to change it or make it better for her, I just cared about myself and was mostly on the side of the humans in my family and they really didn't deserve that she did.
It's the person's fault if their type of play time makes the cat want to and have to try in any and every way they can to defend themselves and get the ahole human to cut it the fudge out.
These videos don't really show people playing with their cats they just show them being mean and arrogant aholes to the cats and it's really messed up and hateful and should be punished.
If someone knows that their cat is in a bad mood they should leave them alone and not mess around with or hurt them, and forcing a cat to interact with you is hurting them , and if it keeps up take them to the vet and make sure that their bad mood is not due to pain and suffering due to bad health and or injuries,,fear fits in there too,.
Play with your cat.
That's why like you said get scratchers for your cats.
I have so many scratch marks from my cats hanging on to me over the years.
