Happy 2023 and congrats on getting the quest and getting the free star fragment! I'm not certain why a star did not fall for you; perhaps because you were just awarded one from the side quest or maybe because of the constant camera movement? Like Buzz had said, I too usually make a fire to change it to morning and night especially if a star hasn't fallen earlier than like 3am or so because you still need time to go retrieve it before it disappears. Perhaps the fire changing morning and night helps to trigger it, I am not sure but I am sure of that spot and looking towards the castle skyline to cause the star to fall on a land mass usually near Wahgo Katta Shrine. Yes, you can look in any direction but you risk the star falling into a body of water or a ravine where they then just disappear! It does take patience and I find it tedious but necessary. Sometimes a Lynel will also drop a star fragment but that is rare!
That place between the dueling peaks where you found the ore and marked it, has a bunch of I guess ridges or terraces down the mountain side, on both sides, that are full of ore deposits spread out along each terrace. You can glide between both sides and go along each terrace collecting the ore deposits. They are a bit spread apart so one must run along each terrace to collect the ore deposits from each terrace and when you reach the bottom terrace near the shrine, there is a bokoblin enemy camp on the ground level to either be wary of or to fire some bomb arrows into. If you fully clear the camp, the treasure chest rewards you with the giant boomerang. I'm not personally a fan of that weapon but I do like clearing the camp and getting the monster parts. Monster parts are also valuable to use in elixirs or to use for armor upgrades with the great fairies or even to sell and make rupees or mon currency with Kilton the Fang and Bone guy. Kilton also awards you a medal if you kill every Mulduga, or every talus, or every Hinox and Stalnox. It's kind of like shrine hunting except its for those monsters. The medals are only a part of game completion they don't grant you any abilities or anything. When you find Kilton at night, ask him about monsters and he will be able to tell you how many of each you have found and slain if you are interested in this part of the game.
When using an amiibo, I recommend saving your file first, then use the amiibo. This way, you can avoid duplicates! If the amiibo drops another headgear you can quickly go back to your saved file and reload it and then try the amiibo again, rinse and repeat until you get what you are seeking or at least something other than duplicate head gear or armor. Immediately go back to the save screen and reload your hard saved file not any autosave the game may have generated. If this seems tedious, you can just sell the duplicates at a shop. Just don't sell any you may have upgraded by accident! I hope this helps! Happy gaming in 2023! Before we know it, it will be May and everyone will be rushing to Tears of the Kingdom! I'd love to see more trailers or sneak peak videos from Nintendo! Sorry such a long post! I'll try and keep them shorter lol
