The expansion really adds more complexity to the decision making and how you strategize. The different color skulls make you have to weigh if it’s worth going to a building to reinforce. And the influence mechanic adds more depth by gaining more companions that aid in your quests and battles. While it does add even more cost to the game, I’d highly recommend if you ever get the chance to try the expansion out!

I appreciate your viewpoints but disagree on multiple of your cons.
For me and my group (who have played 30+ coop games) I really enjoy the amount and the difficulty of the decisions here. I disagree that the choices are obvious, sure the goals are very transparent, e.g. finish good/bad quest, remove skulls and get stronger, but how to get there is really the interesting part. Games like Pandemic (remove disease cubes of Color with 3 cubes at one place) or Spirit Island (remove invaders that cause blight) are quite similar in that area.
Also I never felt the game to be too easy, but I heard it is a complain for games with less than 4 players.
Final point is the replayability which I feel is very high due to the plug and play nature that lets you combine scenarios and adversaries.
