This is the worst review I have ever seen. There is no doubt in my mind that Frost Giant spent the last penny they had on a positive review from IGN.
This game is a 3/10. How can an unfinished mess be an 8/10? It would be 15/10 with all of their promised features, game modes, and complete races? No. No it fucking wouldn’t. This is the least authentic review I have ever heard. This is insulting to my intelligence. Your credibility never recovers from calling something that is objectively terrible a fucking 8/10. Holy shit.
The problem with games like this whether they are amazing or not is the fanbase. It's just like old people saying "Rock N Roll sucks today give us something for fresh" and then some new 20 year old rock band comes out that sounds decent but since it's a genre that's been dead for decades in terns of evolving cause it's just a guitar, drum, bass and singer the fans will say "Eh this ain't no AC/DC" and go back to playing the same albums again. That's where videogames are at for the most part. Why buy this when you can play Starcraft or Warcraft will be the opinion. It's comfort food. You know it.
This game I'm sure will never live up to Broodwar (nothing really can) but it's also the fans of something that stick to the nostalgia and comfort of what they know.
Can we have the name of the reviewer who gave that hyper generous notation ? So that I know I must not trust this charlatan ever in anything gaming please IGN ???? Next time a studio releases a shitty game, who does it have to contact for a 8 too please ?
8/10 ????!!!! Is it a typo or something ? Because this game is clearly, undoubtedly a 3/10.
Keep in mind, this is the same individual that gave Dragon Age: The Veilguard a 9/10.
It's a very mediocre uninteresting game
It looks like you are being TOOOOOOOOOOOO kind to the game
Stormgate or Tempest Rising? Comment which one you would rather buy (I like both Starcraft and Command & Conquer).
"We have Starcraft 2 at home", vibes.
8/10. So it's better than Concorde!
Construction Complete!
I have played 14 years Starcraft 2 and now i play Stormgate and SC2. Stormgate is very fun to play and i recommend all to download it! Units have own cool abilities and i love Stormgates lot!
I have played all available missions, got all the currently achievable steam achievements and been grinding 1v1 for a couple days now. It is great fun and I am really hoping the devs won't slow down. They have so much more in the pipeline and I just can't wait! I'd encourage every RTS fan to give it a go. The base game is free, after all. Play some AI skirmish matches to get to know the mechanics and then hop into ladder. This game needs more attention!
Ist this Fortnite RTS ? 🤦♂️
Bro, in sc2 you rush pressing the scan when theres DT or nexus to recall, or just click our caster to spell. Top bar is good for new players but you can get use to it without it easily if you just use your hotkeys as youre supposed to
Temu Starcraft
We need Warcraft 4
you guys deleted my comment about me accusing you of being paid off by Frost Giant to give a good review. You're exposed!
10:44 Clippy mention. Nice.
Nothing seems to come near the Starcraft universe. There is a secret sauce that only the artists who created the 3 races have.
how much money did Frost Giant give you to rate this pile of crap an 8?
Only 12 missions and they call it a campaign? That is quite disappointing. But i guess those who misses warcraft/starcraft multiplayer will have fun with it while it last
Rune factory Guardians of Azuma Ign vídeo review, please
compared to sc2, i think the UI and building design is uglier, and the terrain looks too plain?
I LOVED WC2, SC, WC3, and SC2. I just really wish Stormgate became something that felt very new and different.
The game will die before 2026. I guess this is where the last payment from stormgate went. IGN
Today I’ll just share everything I like about Stormgate.
I think the graphics are good. Most things are easy to recognize, feel atmospheric, and create good immersion through the right mix of cartoon-style and serious graphics.
I also find the controls mostly good, and there are nice options for customizing your hotkeys.
I think the Infernals and Vanguard are mostly well-designed visually.
I like that you can destroy trees.
I like the terrain editor. It looks clear and easy to use, while also offering many possibilities. It has many cool features that the StarCraft 2 editor already had, and even more.
I can’t say much yet about the data editor and trigger editor, since they’re not available yet, but I assume they will be easier to use in many areas without losing any complexity.
“I worked at blizzard for 7 years”
This game improved so much! Such a blast now and its only gonna get better
Maybe even I can make a mod with the starcraft2 engine and get an 9 from IGN.
They should have just called the Celestials "Protoss" since they seem almost identical. At least they didn't make the 3rd faction an insectoid race.
The persistent faction meta war mode was something that really grabbed my interest originally, hope they spotlight that more in the future
The change from the creep to the stormgate seems to be a huge step backward
Likes creep camps and the top bar? …i no longer trust this review ://
So, how long until it is truly finished?
I like the storm clippy suggestion
DBstyle.
They really nailed it. I hope this game makes it 🙂 I know I'll get it
And I hope they get inspired to get a successor to WC3
This review never addresses the most important question: if it's online-only. Because if so, it's automatically trash. Also, do you actually own the game for $25 (on GOG), or is it just a license (steam)? These should be givens for all games and it looks like it fails both of these, so it should be a 5/10 max.
I bought the game mostly out of pity, because I know that the game will only be decent at best in three years. My standards are higher, and I also don’t believe that building a Blizzard-style RTS is the right path, because Blizzard-style RTS games don’t only include good things—they also have some very significant flaws.
It would have been better if they had communicated that their goal is to build the best mix of Starcraft 2, C&C Generals, Age of Empires 2, and Warcraft 3—by far the best RTS games on the market. Every RTS has at least one element that makes it stand out and be better than the others.
In recent years, it’s also become clear that they’ve invested a lot of money and time into features that were ultimately completely scrapped or changed, which shows they experiment a lot, even though they know they don’t have the budget for that. I would have preferred to see more competence in this regard. I also think the priorities have been poorly set. Before planning a “Team Mayhem” mode—whose name is also unclear—they should first make sure that regular 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, and 4v4 matches work, which have been a basic standard since 1998. And this mode needs to be fun with all three factions before they even think about other modes.
The factions being fun to play and the editor for creating new content are the absolute foundation. What we don’t need for long-term fun—and where time could be saved—are new game modes, rewards, skins, a single-player campaign, or objectives like creep camps or stormgates. In a good RTS, the opponent’s bases and the resources in or around them are the objective you fight over. For this, it's necessary that you can harvest certain resources wherever you want, so that bases can potentially be built anywhere—making additional objectives unnecessary. (To clarify with an example: If you could harvest a resource like “Therium” in one place and plant it somewhere else instead of turning it in, and if it continued to grow at the new location, then bases could pop up anywhere on the map.)
I picked this idea because Frost Giant themselves once floated a similar concept, but of course there are many others.
With decisions like these, they’ve unfortunately shown that they haven’t gathered the right kind of experience. In other areas, they do have a lot of experience and have delivered. The graphics and controls are now very satisfying. But even with the graphics, they demonstrated a lack of understanding of RTS design, by making the visuals far too cartoony at first, and only adjusting after strong community backlash. That could’ve been anticipated, saving a lot of time and money. Overall, they’re not using the resources they have well, and that’s why—even if they had more money—the game still wouldn’t become the RTS it could be. They would just keep spending the money on experiments where others already know the outcome.
Glad to have backed their kickstarter campaign!
Is Blizzard going to sue? 🤨
