If you give them back to her, she’ll go and play with another girl (you can follow her)
If you don’t give it back, she’ll still walk back to the same place but she’ll be playing alone. I created a new game just so I can return it back to her coz I felt terrible.
Just select the mission, then hit up on the dpad, it'll lead you right to all six locations. Gotta hit up after finding each one.

Not sure how, but I found 7 stones. Any one else encounter this? I was on my way to turn in the 6, and saw a 7th as I was on my way.
Edit: I found 9 total. On the 9th, my character commented I found them all and should return them. I have 9 in inventory. 🤷
idk why she complains of having no friends. If you follow her after the quest she actually walks all the way back to the courtyard and starts playing gobstones and making random nice conversation with a gryffindor student who was also playing

I thought this had gliched on me as I had 6 and it was crossed out 6/6 in my journal, and it kept sending me back to Zenobia on the waypoint up to the trophy room even though she was stationed by the dark arks classroom where you find the quest.
Eventually, after hard resetting my xbox series x, and gathering 8 for some weird reason, it let me complete the side mission.
I've heard of some people even having over 10 in their inventory, but like others have commented I think it needs to be from 5 separate location's and also I'm assuming the one the game gives you for starting the mission doesn't count.
Anyway, I hope this helps anyone else pulling their hair out and shouting at their tv:)
