Honor Magic7 RSR Porsche Design hands-on

The Honor Magic7 RSR Porsche Edition is the Ultra equivalent flagship phone in Honor’s portfolio. It packs all the high-end specs you’d find in the Magic7 Pro but with fancier Porsche Design looks, improved display protection and some minor tweaks to the Pro variant’s already excellent camera setup. Plus there’s a bigger battery in there.

We got the chance to handle both the Magic7 RSR in its Provence Purple and Agate Ash (Gray) colors after the Magic7 series global launch event, and these are our first impressions.

Starting with the design, Magic7 RSR feels a tad heftier than its Pro sibling and like the previous Porsche Design models, we have a large hexagonal camera island with some aggressive lines as a nod to Porsche’s racing heritage. You’ll also notice the large swooping “Flyline” going down the back, which fits right at home with the high-performance sports car look.

The back is made from glass and features Honor’s NanoCrystal Shield technology for added scratch and drop resistance. There’s a satin-like matte coating that helps with the grip, and it feels great when handling the device without a protective case.

While we’re talking about the back, let’s draw our attention to the cameras. We’re working with the same triple camera setup as the Magic7 Pro but with a larger f/1.9 aperture on the 200MP 3x periscope zoom camera. That should translate into more light coming through the sensor compared to the Magic7 Pro’s f/2.6 aperture. Honor also added a LiDAR sensor to help keep video stabilization in check.

The main 50MP camera with its variable f/1.4-f/2.0 aperture and the 50MP ultrawide sensor are carried over from the Magic7 Pro.

Next up, the 6.8-inch LTPO OLED display. It features the trendy micro quad curve design, which bends the display on all sides. The panel also gets Honor’s NanoCrystal Shield protection with a special anti-scratch coating that’s supposedly ten times more durable against scratches and drops than regular glass.

There’s a 50 MP selfie camera tucked inside the pill-shaped cutout, and it’s joined by a 3D sensor for facial recognition and better depth effects in portrait selfies. You also get an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner as you should on a top-tier flagship in 2025.

Magic7 RSR comes equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite and you can pair that with up to 24GB RAM and 1TB storage. Safe to say, we expect class-leading performance here, but we’ll have to perform our usual set of tests before we can issue a verdict.

A few quick words on software. The Magic7 RSR demo unit we tested was running Honor MagicOS 9.0 based on Android 15 complete with Honor’s new suite of AI features. These include Honor’s Magic Portal with circle-to-search, AI Super Zoom, and AI translation working alongside Google Gemini.

And that’s the gist of the Honor Magic7 RSR Porsche Edition. Honor went all out with its latest top-tier flagship, and it’s certainly one of the best spec’d devices in the Android realm. In the meantime, Honor will start shipping the Magic7 RSR from February 21, with a suggested retail price of €1,799 for the 16/512GB trim.
