Last week we asked you what you thought of the Honor Magic7 series – now the results are in and they are not too surprising. Predictably, the Pro model came out on top, while the affordable but less capable Lite model didn’t get as much attention.
The Honor Magic7 Pro proved quite popular in the polls, but it’s not perfect. Many commenters say that it’s not a large enough upgrade from the Magic6 Pro (and we reached the same conclusion in our review). The new telephoto camera failed to wow us and European models got a smaller battery for some reason. Still, the phone gets almost everything else right with a couple of unique features to make it stand out (like that face scanner on the front).
The Honor Magic7 RSR Porsche Design also attracted attention, but it’s mostly in the way that sports cars do – people love to gawk at these and they elevate the company’s profile, but most will probably end up buying one of the more reasonable models from the brand.
The Honor Magic7 Lite is more of a mid-ranger, so clearly not suitable for those looking for a new flagship. The chipset and 5MP ultra-wide camera aren’t great, but with quickly falling prices in some markets, the Lite will find its own fans.
We’re not done, there’s actually a fourth member that we need to talk about – the vanilla Honor Magic7. For whatever reason, Honor chose not to bring this one along with the Pro, RSR and Lite. Which may have been a mistake, judging by the number of comments from people who would have picked it over the Pro, if they had that option.
The vanilla model drops the 200MP telephoto module (it has a 50MP 68mm tele camera instead) and the face scanner (leaving only a small punch hole for the 50MP selfie camera). But it still packs the Snapdragon 8 Elite and a high-quality LTPO OLED display. Its design is overall similar to the Pro, though the 5,650mAh Si/C battery probably would have had a lower capacity if this phone launched in Europe. Still, though, the price of the Pro was one of the most common complaints against it and having a vanilla version would have been a great way to offer a cheaper model but still a flagship (unlike the Lite).
