Samsung’s latest Odyssey gaming monitor features glasses-free 3D, now available for pre-order

Bottom line: Samsung is ready to launch its latest lineup of gaming monitors, first revealed at CES 2025. Among the highlights is the new Odyssey 3D series, which delivers a glasses-free 3D experience through advanced eye-tracking technology and a proprietary lenticular lens. The updated range also includes new Odyssey OLED models and the ViewFinity S8 37-inch, which is the largest 16:9 4K Samsung monitor to date.

Leading the charge is the 27-inch Odyssey 3D, which aims to redefine immersive gameplay by offering a glasses-free 3D experience. This is made possible through its advanced eye-tracking system, which works in tandem with a specially designed lenticular lens to render lifelike 3D visuals in high definition.

Initially, Samsung claimed this monitor would be capable of converting 2D content into 3D in real time using AI. However, the company has since scaled back that promise. Instead of full compatibility across all content, 3D functionality will depend on game-specific support.

At launch, the only supported game is The First Berserker: Khazan, a hack-and-slash action title. Samsung is also collaborating with Neowiz to bring 3D support to Lies of P, expected to coincide with the release of the game’s upcoming DLC. More supported titles are planned for the future.

While real-time 2D-to-3D conversion won’t be available for games, the feature will work for video playback – albeit with some restrictions. Users must watch in full-screen mode, disable HDR, and avoid DRM-protected platforms. Additionally, not all video players are supported, and the feature requires an Nvidia GPU, with Samsung recommending a GeForce RTX 3080 or higher.

Outside of its 3D capabilities, the Odyssey 3D still boasts solid specs for a gaming display. It features a 4K resolution, a 165Hz refresh rate, a 1ms GtG response time, and support for both AMD FreeSync Premium and Nvidia G-Sync. The monitor also includes Edge Lighting, which syncs ambient lighting beneath the screen to match on-screen visuals for added immersion.

To access the 3D functionality, users will need to install and use Samsung’s Reality Hub app. When not in use for 3D, the monitor functions like any standard high-performance display.

Another highlight of the Odyssey series is the OLED G8, now available in 27-inch and 32-inch models. The larger model has been available for sometime, but for some reason Samsung appears to be relaunching it as new, it uses the same 4K 240Hz QD-OLED panels of the top gaming monitors we’ve reviewed in the last year. The 27-inch model is brand-new, however, similar to the Dell Alienware AW2725Q we just reviewed last week.

The Odyssey G9 (model G91F) is a new 49-inch ultrawide gaming monitor featuring a VA panel with Dual QHD resolution (5120 x 1440), a 144Hz refresh rate, a 1ms GtG response time, and a 1000R curvature.

Not to be confused with the Odyssey OLED G9 – which is also an ultrawide of the same size but with a much faster 240Hz QD-OLED panel – the non-OLED version is expected to launch at a significantly lower price point.

In addition to its gaming-focused displays, Samsung is introducing the 37-inch ViewFinity S8, now the company’s largest 16:9 4K monitor. It’s approximately 34% larger than the previous model and features an ergonomic design certified by TÜV Rheinland as an Ergonomic Workspace Display. It also includes Intelligent Eye Care certification, aimed at reducing eye strain during extended use.

The Odyssey 3D, Odyssey OLED G8, and Odyssey G9 are all available for pre-order, with initial listings appearing on Samsung’s South Korean website. Global availability is expected to follow soon.
