Theres no comparison, steam deck actually has games
I'm not sure about SW2. Aside from first-party support, Steam > Nintendo eShop in every way. Combine Steam with a solid Windows or SteamOS/Bezzite installation on the Go/Go2 legion, Ally Extreme/X, or any other Windows/Steam-based portable computer, and it becomes clear where Nintendo is today. Add to that the fact that we can eGPUs on these portable PCs and suddenly I just can't justify investing in the Nintendo ecosystem any further.
I love Zelda, Mario, Metroid, etc., TOTK is my favorite installment so far. But it's just not worth the price and choice of Nintendo hardware anymore when Square Enix > Nintendo when I have to choose AAA releases. And Square has given up exclusive games with Sony…
Then we have how disconnected Nintendo is from its communities. This whole trick with the release of SW2? Yes, no. Or the increased cost of the subscription (for what…?) and the new AAA prices of the first page 69.99-79.99? And don't expect any discounts. Steam better
It means there will be a new console and games that run better on steamdeck than hardware made by hateful nintendo.
Steam Deck is a complete failure. And Steam is also declining and losing sales at an astonishing rate, while Steam games remain politicized and you can't comment on the forums because you'll offend the abusive moderators. I love Nintendo, Valve simply can't compete with a real video game brand!

To me the biggest difference is going to be screen quality and the ability to emulate which we know very well Nintendo does not go far. The screen is going to obviously be a 1080p lcd screen and to me the 800p OLED is better especially at 90hz while switch will be cap out at 60hz it’s really going to boil down to what games you play if you’re a fan of a lot of switch exclusives than your going to get a switch if other caliber of games and legacy games than steam deck is the way to go. Personally I count on one hand how many switch exclusives I like. So to me at least for the time being steam deck is going to be my main purchase but who knows the direct on April 2nd can greatly surprise me which I highly doubt it.

I just hope they fix the Nintendo online shop browsing. While browsing on switch 1 it takes FOREVER to load images of games and previews etc. was such a terrible experience.

Most of the…more sensible…comments have already said, yeah, just look at sales numbers. Major gaming consoles, Switch especially, way outsale the Steamdeck, so no worries there. Steamdeck way outsells any other hand held PC, so no worries there on needing an upgrade super soon, keep making money on what works now. They are both very successful in their own right, and are aiming at different markets. Things are slowly shifting a bit, but PC gaming is still more than a big chunk of gamers, especially casual ones, are willing to dip their toes into just yet.
I dont think they compare, arent they for different things? The Switch is a Lambo while Steam Deck is like a Supra.
Steam Deck is still better and games are cheaper. Plus Online is free

I’d say almost everyone I know has heard of the switch, and almost nobody I know has heard of the Steam Deck.
steamdeck is an open platform. you can install anything you want on it. steam has lognterm support. I can access games I bought 20 years ago. when nintendo turned off tehir eshop, my wii U was dead in teh water. steam deck doen't need to be jailbroken either
I don't think the system will be above $400. If it goes any higher it's going to be in direct competition with the Steam Deck, and very possibly the Steam Deck 2 whenever that comes out. It'll also be in competition with the PS5 and Series X, and the Switch has always been the lower cost alternative. (It isn't really, as games cost way more, but that's what they want you to believe. Nintendo are very good at marketing)
All the switch 2 means for the steam deck is more emulation experiences.

Nintendo has its exclusive games, which is great, but in my opinion, their consoles are quite different. I don’t see the Switch 2 offering the option to choose between 40 or 45 frames per second. Steam frequently has great sales, and the Switch 2 lacks trackpads and back buttons. These differences cater to different audiences, and that’s perfectly fine. I currently own the Deck OLED, and I’m satisfied with it. However, I’ll wait for the Switch 2 revision in 3-4 years to play the exclusives.

steam deck is your steam library with massive discounts etc. the library you can carry anywhere pc, Mac, handheld. Switch games is one platform with very pricey games as this is how they get their revenue.

I think the Legion has detachable joycon like controllers, so you can also argue Lenovo stole the their joycon controller design from Nintendo.
