Your game is a product and in a competitive economy, your product is compared to other products based on whether or not it's worth buying.
Consumers do not care about how hard it was to make and they do not care how expensive it's becoming. The only thing they care about "is it worth buying" and if the answer is no, it's YOUR job to figure out how to fix that, not toss the blame on your customers for expecting more from you. You keep doing that and someday they won't be your customers anymore.
