I think they chose the worst possible moments/lines to show off for Mario in the trailer. Everyone else got dynamic things to say (well except Luigi lol), but Mario got confused talking to self moment and short generic line that he could sort of do an accent for
If Pratt is really going with a Brooklyn accent, I think as long as the movie opens up with Mario and Luigi in a city setting, the voice immediately hits better because you know exactly what he's going for. But in this context, nobody knew what to expect, and half the people didn't even notice the subtle Brooklyn accent in the second line the first time through.

I don’t understand how people are saying Mario doesnt have an accent, you can clearly hear the brooklyn when he says “mushroom kingdome, heah weee cahmmmm”. I think the lack of actual voice lines in the trailer is the reason we dont hear it

I think when it comes to Chris Pratt as Mario we didn't hear enough. With Bowser we had enough solid lines to really judge Jack Black, but not so much for Mario especially since he is the main character. And really this thing with Mario's voice just makes me think of how things went with the Sonic movie. You have Ben Schwartz as Sonic, and while I haven't seen too much of his work to say if it was just his voice I do know one other piece of media he did. That was Duck Tales as Dewey, who sounds exactly like how Ben did as Sonic, yet I haven't seen any outage over the voice being the same or anything. And Sonic is different as he always talks and has had different voice actors over the years, while Mario as the not as talkative type never had much but did have a few voice actors. Some of which I think came before Charles. So I really want to hear more before getting any straight out good/bad feelings from this.
