This is outstanding, all new and vital for me and Dot who is 4-5 months old. Every evening she gets puppy zoomies and includes lots of play bites which are really painful. Today I applied your advice and the change was immediate and dramatic. THANKYOU.
Please do a counter surfing video.👍😉
Thanks for this. The most useful information ive come across about puppy biting. Our 12 week old puppy is lovely until she starts the biting so I will be putting your methods into practice. I've learnt something about puppy psychology here and realised I've been approaching the situation incorrectly!
Do you know how to train a Aussie/Heeler puppy who is very handsy when she plays and puppy bites even with screaming oww she doesn’t care and she’s very hard headed
Hey, I know this is late, but what do I do if the puppy doesn't buck their head back? My 10-week-old havanese bites a lot but when we say ouch, no matter how loud, he doesn't stop unless we pull away. If there something to do about this?
Looks like im going to have to get bite sleeves, gloves and possibly bite shoes. 😂 16 week old xl bully with mommy issues. His mom died the day after the pups were born. A few days after that they went to their humans to bottle feed them.😢 So far he's doing good but i do get nervous as he is growing so fast
This is so unbelievably helpful. So glad I found it I was about to lose my mind with the biting. Thank you.
Amazing! Thank u.
I've watched a few videos on puppy biting and this is the first one to go over what I actually want, how to get my dog to play bite with less force. All other ones I've seen has been about stopping the puppy from biting altogether but why would I want that?
This makes so much sense. I’ve been trying different methods and haven’t found a good solution yet. Your method definitely makes more sense.
We were tearing our hair out with our Staffy (16 weeks)… he was constantly biting really hard and we were giving up hope. Our trainer couldn't even offer us decent advice (said to get tested for worms!). One watch of this guide and we had him move from biting to mouthing. Thank you so much!
i wish… my 12 week old puppy doesnt care at all about ANY interruptions. ive been trying this for a week but he sees me "crying out" as invitation to play and bites down harder 🙁 when i try to leave he follows me and bites down on the hem of my pants and pulls… any tips? my hands look like ive been fistfighting a shark 🙁
I just adopted a one year old pitbull who has had no socialization. He’s 70 pounds and I’m 130 pounds. I pretty much do what you are saying. Is it too late to correct his biting issues? He wants to play w my 10 pound chihuahua but as you say he has had no play biting experience. He doesn’t know how hard or when to stop. I found this video very informative. I do have all 3 of my dogs in training (the 3rd dog is a smaller pitbull). All 3 are rescues. The puppy seems to be getting better but it sounds like this is going to be difficult given his age. I was told he was 3 but the biting was a big clue that he was still a puppy. And he has grown a lot since I got him (he was around 50 pounds). But this explains a lot and I hope it’s helpful. Thank you
this video is incredible! i've only had my puppy a couple days and already felt so helpless with the nipping, which just seemed to be getting harder. it seemed that the advice that i was getting just seemed to have no affect. the videos you included absolutely stunned me, jaw on the floor! i had been doing the exact opposite, a soft ouch and pulling away/supplimenting with a chew toy. will definitely be trying this!
Great video! We are a family of six with a 10 week old German Shepherd puppy. As you may be aware German shepherds are known to be land sharks in the puppy phase. 😂 Her bites are painful! We will implement the strategies you suggest and I plan on having my kids all watch this video.
Kinda sad I'm finding this video so late – our pup is almost 12 weeks old and we've spent the last month doing redirection instead of "ouch" and walk away. Seems like we have a LOT of work to go through because now she chomps, won't let go, and we have to (gently) detach her while we try to get behind something.
She also came home sick so we haven't been able to socialize her with other puppies and dogs until now. What's the development window for of-leash puppy play helping with this? I'm hoping we haven't waited too long for that 🙁
my puppy is 6.5/7 months, born in beginning of april this year, found this video just slightly too late i think. he was doing better for a few months, but now he back to biting and nipping.
What do you do when you try to leave, but the puppy chases and bites at your pants? When it does that, i turn around to remove him, but i think he takes that as me interacting
** I feel the need to share a testimonial. I am so happy I learned about this type of training. I have an APBT with a very strong prey drive. I also live in an area with quite a bit of wildlife. One day my girl came across a baby squirrel that had fallen out of its nest, and she decided to pick it up. Luckily, because I had trained her in bite inhibition as a puppy, she was nimble and gentle with her mouth. The little guy was completely unharmed, and I was able to get him to a wildlife rehabber.
Not me watching the whole video to learn that none of this will work on the 7 month old puppy I just got 😢
My German shepherd 10 week old puppy does not care when I say ouch. I get louder and does not flinch. He finds it more exciting if anything. As I write this my hands, fingers and wrists are covered with fresh cuts. Training is going great but the biting is out of control. I can only pet him when he’s waking up or falling asleep. And my family can barely ever pet him since he gets even more intense with them! I need help 😓
I have a six month old puppy who was born deaf. Do you have any tips other than repetition? I use thumbs up hand gesture for good dog. Should I teach her the hand gesture for ouch also, or is there a better way?
Works for us & we’ve seen great results… but our 14 wk old puppy has been biting the bag legs of our 7 yr old lab so much that they are scabbed & bleeding. (Our lab is a very awkward mix & has a hard time turning around fast enough to stop the puppy). Any ideas??
I have a 6 month micro bully and need help leash training she is the most stubborn puppy have ever seen any tips on leash training tired treats and positive enforcement she just flops down and refuses to move want take treats just sits there walks great following off leash got me really frustrated and don't know what to do and would love to take her out on walks any ideas would be appreciated
My puppy is now 8 months old. Intensity is now reduced and i am working on the frequency of mouthing. Am i on track or a bit late? I want to completely remove the mouthing habits
So glad someone in my reddit community sent me this. I have tried everything I could think of including reaching out to reddit for help. I thought I was just going to have to commit to long sleeves and pants permanently to hide the scars. My baby polar bear is only 13 weeks old, but she is huge and can fit my entire arm in her mouth. She has the bite force of a fully grown game pitbull and she clamps down and locks on. At one point she clamped so hard, I thought she was going to break my arm. Now I see why she does this and it is not her fault. I unintentionally made it her favorite game. Now I begin the process of unteaching the bad behavior I taught her. Fingers crossed that unteaching it is as easy and teaching it was.
