I've always heard to take the dogs for a walk together as a first introduction. We are introducing an 11 week old puppy to an anxious 4 y/o female dog. The 4 year old's older brother just died a few months ago, but she has never had any other " dog friends" cause of her anxiety. I love your advice/video, but at what point is it safe to walk them together?
But I am worried about the puppy I get next week being 8 weeks is not fully vaxxed… Should I not keep them separate until she's fully vaxxed at 14 weeks? I am so scared of parvo.
Best way i have found i use a play pen they can sniff each other throgh the pen and the pen gives puppy enough room to move around and keeps the older dogs out of puppies space…
Eva just wants snacks lol
My older dogs warns her, but my puppy doesn't listen. Lip raises , growel, nips and now bites
I can't wait to take her on walkies but vet said after 3rd injection, i need my pack of small dogs to get along with Pit XLab puppy.
My puppy doesn't even like to be hold like that 😅
I've seen soo many videos but this is by far the most helpful…However there's one questions I am always left with and that is, what do you do at night when you go to sleep and these dogs are in the same house /space, because we cannot control the interaction time even with a barrier in between/crate at that point…I would really like to know so if anyone see's this and is willing to share advice, I'd appreciate it so much. Thanks
Thank for your video. I have a 5 year old skye terrier and I just introduced 2 18 week old Cavachons. I couldn’t separate them as they’ve been together since both Dec 2023. My terrier is not happy and growls at the puppies. It’s only been a week but I’m worried that Grant (the terrier) will never accept Charlie and Marley do you have anymore advice? Thanks!
Why am I still hearing you and seeing you. You should have just did a video of yourself 🤪
I thought you did more talking and less of showing the interactions between the dogs. I listen to your voice so much and saw you more than the dog I got totally irritated with your voice. I got nothing from your video.😫
my goodness what a rigamaro, the dog is picking up on the anxiety of the people
Excellent video !!!! You explained everything very well and are an excellent trainer. Thaanks!!!
I LOVE this video, Thank you so much for the tips!
Who else is watching because their kid snuck a puppy into the house last night?
I have been using this https://www.youtube.com/post/Ugkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU as a handy reference book. I read through the book and enjoyed the little glimpses of examples. I love that this author believes in rescue dogs. The tips and training has been invaluable and gave me moments of…."how simple why didn't I think of it" so it's been a great tool. Thank you!
Jeez I have a 5 year old high energy labradoodle who loves to play and loves people but he has zero self control and gets revved up when people come over or when fetching his ball. We are bringing home a 10 week lab puppy. After watching this I am a bit worried…
What if your older dog is not food motivated? How to keep his focus during the initial exposure?
Very helpful thank you
I did the worst thing and just bought the puppy straight into my older dogs home! Who obviously wasn’t to thrilled and growled and snapped, this was only 2 days ago so going to go out and follow this video to a T and see if can regain the last two days! Thank you
Very useful, it's like you are describing my adult female dog, not too socialised and protective over her territory.
A lot of these training videos get you to introduce your puppy to your older dog outside on nuteral ground. Here in the UK we cannot bring our puppies outside until after their second vaccinations therefore i cannot introduce my dog to my puppy on nuteral ground outside. We don't have a huge house where I can leave my older dog without him knowing there is something going on and making a fuss because he is left out. Has anyone got any ideas on how these introductions can happen in the house. Thank you xxx
Heya, so I bought a new puppy home yesterday. I brang him down to both my other dogs level and let them sniff him etc, I was worried/anxious and grabbed the dog away so they couldn’t hurt him. I kept him with me last night and the other two downstairs, today they have both growled a little maybe from the puppy sniffing them to much. I now try and keep the interaction as small as possible. My puppy is literally in my arms 24/7 as I am so worried to let him run around and be normal!! Any advice?
My 2 dogs will look at the puppy and then look away and look back at us but if the puppy gets too close, then my dogs growl and flare there teeth at the puppy
Help my old beagle can't get together with my new daschund puppy… What shoul I do? I'm really sad now
I have 3 rat terrier and they're adults but they do get along with other dogs. I just got a new puppy but they run from new puppy and the new puppy run and try to play with them but they run. I don't know how to interact with new one. Any recommendations please
My older dog is terrified of our new puppy and idk how to make the older dog comfortable
How do you keep an owner from screaming at both dogs. That's what I witnessed yesterday. And I was shaking. I have cats. I know how to introduce them. Thanks
I’m getting a new puppy in 3 days and my older dog is very energetic 😭
I have a female shiba that loves to play with other dogs outside more specifically male dogs. I got a male shiba puppy and I haven’t introduced them outside due to me not being comfortable since other people don’t pick up after their dogs in my apartment complex. Day one was horrible as she came home from daycare and was surprised to see a new guest. Luckily the puppy is in a pen when she’s home so she can’t get to him. They are now able to be in the same room. Sometimes he antagonizes her from his pen by barking at her and she tries to tell him to shut up. Sometimes she will get jealous and run up to his pen. Daycare has helped a lot as she still gets her socialization and is too tired to have interactions with him. I’m hoping once he’s vaccinated and able to go outside that it will change her perception of him. Hopefully a year from now it will be a happy ending
This is sooooo helpful. We are about to take in a rescue who is being fostered from an emergency situation. I'm going to follow these steps as best we can we can. Luckily we still have baby gates and extra crate, because it has to be a fast adoption. But yes, lowering our first dogs stress will be NUMBER 1! Thanks so much. Its kind of a last minute emergency thing. Thank you so much!
Question- we have a cat and a two year old labradoodle mix. The lab was agressive to the cat for a few months but now they do well. She’s extremely stranger aggressive in our house… the cat is my oldests pet. The lab is my youngests. My middle child wants a small dog.
Would it be ok to keep them separated for a few months? Or would that be worse?
This is not the way! Never nose to nose en never hold your pup!! We introduce so many pups with dogs and it always goes well!! But they need to smell the back! Both with leash! Never hold the pup higher then the other dog! Stupid video ever.. Natural space to meet eachother yes, but al the rest, wtf are you doing? This is a weird way you meet a pup!
