My dog Bella has had this twice. Both times occurred after having to bath her with the water hose. First time she hot sprayed by a skunk, second time she got into a patch of seed ticks. It doesnt seem to hurt her but resolved itself after a little over a week. Thank You for the info!!!

My english staffordshire bull terrier just has this condition, we had a hike in the woods and he got wet. It's cold outside because it's March. Raining every other day.
About 6 hours later after the hike, he was holding his tail like that and later he was so frustrated about the pain in his back end. He growled at his tail and could not sit. Got the cold tail diagnosis from the vet and meds to ease the pain. It´s day 4 and his tail moves again.
what if my pup hasn't been swimming but he has this? he was born with a damaged tail or not fully grown and he doesn't put it up he still waggs it and gets super excited but it's always pointing down?

My malinious just started showing signs of this; limp tail, doesn’t know what to do with it, hesitant of letting me touch it where as normally it’s very lively and usually is curled up in a circle like shape. We’ve been having rains these couple of weeks and we have a large fountain waterfall, it’s been filling up with rain water and he’s been going inside to swim in it a few times already. My dog has had this happen to him before. It’s usually anytime there hurt there tail and is really sore for them. :-(. This has been the only Time he’s actually ever had his tail so far between his legs that it actually tucked under. We don’t know how it happened but after a couple days , it went away on its own without a vet trip anyways. He’s never had it again since then. The best I can explain it is it’s when they almost “Sprain” there tell or have a pulled muscle at the base of the tail. Nobody wants to see there dogs in pain but it will subside after a few days.

can the cold tail also cause them uncoordinated walks? When my chow chow tail's go limp, it also affects her back legs and this normally happens when we go for walks or when he gets super excited when he sees a cat or other dogs. Takes about five mins for her to walk back to normal.

The morning of the day before yesterday it was a skunk… I gave him a shower with cold water. He still stinks a bit and I was even wondering if it is the smell making him like this but I doubt it. He jumps too much in the bushes hunting mice and rats. This I give more credit for his condition.
