We have to stay in hotels during our move, and we have movers who are going to be coming right after us. How do we help our cats feel comfortable in the two hotel rooms across our trip? What about food/restaurant stops while we drive? This whole thing is really up in the air, as it depends exclusively on when the movers come, how long they take to pack us and load up, and where we plan on staying during the move. There are soooo many variables during the trip that we are a little nervous. It’s not like we are moving 4, 5 hours away: we are moving across country. We will have two definite overnight stops. Help! I want the cats to feel comfortable and safe (as much as we can) during the move. Also, one has seizures. I am certain she’ll be triggered by the move, so we need it to be especially safe.
i might be moving a couple states away (~18 hrs) with my cat next year and im so glad theres content out there to prepare
Is it. Bad idea to ove with your cat over seas (10 hour plane trip)
What do you do if you’re going to be driving 24 hours?there’s no room for a liter box in a crate. My father passed away and has a place in FL he spent winters in FL and summers in NH where I live..my cat is about 5 and she absolutely hates the crate The last time I took her to the vet she went in and as I went to shut the door, she flew out and then it was chaos. Trying to get her back in the crate for her vet appointment and what do you do about them going to the bathroom for 24 hours while you’re driving from New Hampshire to Florida which I will be doingas my father did
I’ll never forget the time I had the opportunity to meet you and thank you the day I adopted Jupiter form the San Diego Humane Society
What type of transporter or carrier do you recommend and should cats be in their own carrier or together in a big one
Thank you so much, Jackson!!! All we want is to give our kitties the best comfort we can during this stressful time. This helps me a lot. You are the best — THANK YOU!
It’s been 3 weeks and my cat went from a small apartment with just me after 6 yrs to a bigger house with my husband and dog. Dog is good with her. She pretty much stays in the same room I made her room. Other rooms I put a litter box some familiar things she isn’t comfortable. Especially if my husband and dog are in same room she just sits in one spot for the most part. She still wants to go back to her room. What can I do to help her?
We are moving out of our 1-bedroom apartment with our VERY anxious cat. Therefore, there is no spare room to set to base camp other than our bedroom. We are moving short distance, so would it be better for the cat to set up basecamp in the new apartment and move the cat there before we move the rest of our stuff?
Thanks for great advice otherwise!!
Does anyone have advise or tips on moving with an outdoor cat? We will be moving in about a month and have a cat that was a stray in our neighborhood that we rescued a little over a year ago. He still likes to go outside for part the day, or night, depending on the time of year, so he's not 100% outside anymore. I've never had an outdoor cat before so I'm not sure how he will adjust to the new home & area. We do have 2 other indoor only cats and they all get along, but if anyone has moved with an outdoor cat before any advice would be appreciated!
I can confirm that the “bring along used litter” trick really does work. I picked up your tip from watching an episode of MCFH. I saved our foster kittens’ scooped litter in some ziplock bags and brought it along to their adopter’s home. They settled in without missing a beat!
So yeah, it works. If you scoop it first, it shouldn’t smell bad.
I’m moving cross country from Texas to Washington State. I have a cat and I big dog. I thought a lot about this. I got an SUV recently for this exact reason. I plan to have my car be solely in the trunk space with barriers. Bungee cord the litter box in place. My dog will have the back seat. And I’ll have anything I need for either of them and myself in the car with us. But the majority of my things will be sent over by a moving company. When we stop at rest stops and stuff, I have a ln enclosed outdoor cat play thing for her. I didn’t want either of them to be cramped for so many hours and I definitely didn’t want my cat to be stuck in a crate for so long. What do y’all think?
Just adopted my first cat – I may be moving later this year though so this is incredibly helpful honestly for right now as well as later! You’re a life saver
I'm about to move 3k km (totaly different country) and my 2 cats must come with me (I don't want even to think that they are not coming) and I'm so worried how to move them for that long. Car or airplain? Help!
So I'm moving from New York to Florida in May, I'm driving. Should I set up a covered area in a seat for my cat with the carrier and litter box so she won't be stuck in the carrier for 2 days straight of driving?
0:25 i think a breakup is more stressful lol
oreo represents
My kittens do not have microchips because last vet visit they said they didn’t want to overload them with too many interventions at once. So I bought AirTags to put in their collars.
I'm also using Feliway, which is a spray that has pheromones so my cat feels comfortable in a new space and even her carrier, i got this by amazon
I moved 3 days ago and my cat has been hiding underneath the bed and hardly eats and use a litter box 😢
I hope this helps. I'm making my first move for the Army over 1,200 miles. It's going to be a long 2 days with a stop at a pet friendly hotel in the middle. Really hope my 2 kitties do well.
Thank you so much
I'm moving with 3 cats, one I've had for 5 years, other 2 rescued from a hurricaine last year. They were all experiencing cat PTSD after a flood this year. After leaving our home we now must move 555 miles away. I will adapt and help them adapt as well as possible and your ideas are so valuable to me. I'm scared for me, but mostly for the cats.
My Maine Coon cat keeps going back to my old house, so worried, any advice?
Great I messed up … I washed all our blankets to get rid of cat hair and piss for our new home. I washed his litter box too. I took away his pheromones.
He is sleeping in my sons drawer and won't move. He's not eating or using toilet.
I am so worried he will die.
I hope he eventually get back to his normal self
Before move, I cried … I've lived there 29 years … my cat lived here for 12 years, now hes freaking … and my son is newly blind and just got used to old house. I wish we didn't have to move
😞
We are moving from a camper… where our kitten has always been to a house… I plan to not wash his bedding our bedding etc and put it in our bedroom . But how can I make. Sure he isnt stressed while in boarding? We have him on turkey chicken and beef but chicken jerky is and beef food is his favorite. We are moving 900 miles away so bringing him along isn’t good for him. We have to go 900+ miles north to get our stuff and he has always been in the south and he has only lived outside or in the camper since we took him in as a stray. I want this move to be a positive experience for him. We are staying south, but have to go north to get our stuff and I wanna make sure he’s comfy
1 cat 2 litterboxes 😂
First of, I know im 2 years late lol. And fun fact my cat does not like any food. She like one and nothing else trust me ive tried many and she has fancy taste I guess. The thing is, I would like her to have a big place to live in without a dog(like now, my parents dog). She lives downstairs cause of that dog. So she got a few extra pounds. She is the lazy type.
Hey, but how long until we let the cats out into their new homes garden / outdoors?
Great video! We have 3 indoor furr babies, and moving one hour away. Now I know that the previous tenant had 3 cats too… I'm def getting me a black light, but what to do and how to prepare for such a thing? I think it's gonna be a nightmare honestly.. My cats don't pee around the house but def will be if they scent other cats which they probably will. Please, help! <3
This is such a helpful video. Going to be moving soon, dont have a big enough place to give my kitty a spare room, but so glad I can incorporate a lot of these tips in my own way. I like the idea of checking the rug in the new place with a blacklight and having the cleaner to clean it, as well as getting the stress stopper. Luckily I have over a month before moving and have time to prepare.
you have videos for everything, thank you!
What do I do when I move into a loft with no doors expect the bathroom?
This is helpful as I’m moving from Southern NJ to Boston on the 14th. I’m driving there next week to tackle DMV/RMV stuff so I’ll get a sense of what the commute will feel like on moving day. They’ll have their own room in our new place. In our current home they’ll be in their room as the movers load up. I’m going to look up the flower essences because my one cat meows his adorable head off during car rides which stresses out the other two.
Ours sleep on dash.
I've mooved with 3 cats. It's gone OK, I've have only 2 pies out of litter box, after mooving. I've mooved to a small apartment, and first thing first, put thé litter box and a cat tree and a cat bed… So they haved there smell in thé knew house.
I've been succesfull and they've done so well…
I did a short distance move with my cat a couple of years ago. I had adopted her (as a 5-year old) only about 9 months before the move, but even so, she seemed to take it all with a grain of salt. I showed her where her litter box was going to be, where her food and water would be, and she took it all in as a matter of course. I had done the same when I first brought her home 9 months before. She's a pretty easy going kitty, so she settled in well and quickly, and we're both comfy and happy in the new place. Her personality still continues to blossom, even after 4 years together now — she's smart and loving and funny and all the things that people say cats aren't. I love her to death!!
Can someone please help give advice for this situation. My young female cat is going to be introduced to my future roommate's 2 senior male cats in a new home together. How can i make it less painful for my cat?
My cat was easy to move. I took his cat tree (loves it – playing on it right now) and set it up before the next load. I took the litter box (cleaned the day before) so it only had slight scent (more than enough for a cat) and made sure I hung out with him for at least an hour before going to get the next load of stuff.
He settled in quickly without stress.
As for food, he eats anything (very food orientated).
The only issue I had was taking him .I can never get him in the carrier. He got out of his box (oversized laundry container) and started walking around the cabin of the truck. As soon as I started driving however, he climbed in (scared of the moving vehicle) .
Apart from that, no issues.
