Baldur's gate is hod dog water, it's garbage, and the only reason it sold that many copies is because of it's woke content and weord ass things you can do im that game, it's the perfect game for the mindless.
Elden ring creators didn't "overdeliver" their game. They produced a game that SHOULD be of its quality in this day and age. The rest of the competition? They most certainly "underdeliver".
Elden Ring COMPLETELY destroyed the competition, and essentially ruined video gaming for me. It will take YEARS before a game comes along that can match that, and being 52 years old I'm not sure how much longer I'll be able to play these types of games.
These Devs are stupid. Bg3 had Over 400 people working on it. Bg3 should be the gold standard for games and any dev worth their salt would want to make the very best game they've ever made and continue increasing quality and content. Baldurs gate should absolutely be the triple A standard. This is why it's such a popular game. Baldurs gate 3 has a revenue of $657 million. 90 million since it's full release. They deserve it.
BG3 was the point I started to boycott Triple A games. You have vocalized everything I hate about this new Western game dev mentality.
I hate the Rockstar comparison, because while yes they make some of the most amazing games – take a look at how they treated Red Dead 2 Online. There was content they promised but decided to not release so they could focus on their cash cow, GTA V. Rockstar will gladly sacrifice their games if it meant more money. At the very least they gave us more than a god damn battle passes or seasonal skins. We got real content.
We are the CUSTOMERS. In no world should these companies, WHO HAVE MADE THEIR NAME BY DOING THE EXACT SAME THING AS BG3/ELDEN RING (releasing good content), be policing what their customers demand. I just hope they don't forget that they set this trend only to kill it for more money and to exploit its buyers. But hey, if someone else does it that is no good!

Okay but it still fell into the digital deluxe trope that every other AAA is doing right now. Baldur’s gate ain’t special. Tears of the Kingdom, Spider Man 2, and even Jedi survivor had a much greater impact on me than BG3 and I didn’t have to do any micro transactions or notice any disrespect towards fans.
even if this "overdelivery" awareness ends up being a downfall of delivering quality content, there's one word that exists that combats this and is a great tool to use when developing games people are passionate about. That one word is "creativity". If you run out of ideas, create more, creativity is endless and other industries use this for their work and it pays off, music still exists and new rhythms and tones are being created. Movies and Books exist with creating stories to tell. Art exists to create new looks and designs on anything. I think I've made my point but I want to say, the more passionate people create the best ideas in the game industry and the sad truth seems to be the companies we used to love are corrupted with people who don't care about their work and make the decisions on the games over the passionate people. It doesn't mean all hope is lost of course there's still developers that are passionate about their work like Larion and FromSoftware which is why their games get so much love from their target audience.
I am extremely disappointed that anyone paid for Destiny 2, after all the short-changing they did in the first game…
