I am Italian American as well, my grandparents immigrated from Southern Italy, I don't think its worth getting so worked up over this kind of stuff. I was thinking exactly what Ian mentioned about the Mario reveal scene being taken out of context. I think they might be trying to lure us into thinking it'll follow the familiar plot (Brooklyn plumber transports through pipe to Mushroom Kingdom), but actually be taking it in a completely different direction. I think they're either going to play this incredibly safe and keep it very linear and faithful to the original story or they'll go completely off the wall and try to divert expectations. I actually wouldn't mind the former. It's been almost 40 years and we still haven't had the original story done proper justice on the small or big screen.
