You may have noticed this is the second time we uploaded our review of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition! We pulled down the first one after we learned that some of the gameplay had framerate issues stemming from how it was recorded, NOT the performance of the game itself. We always want to show you how a game actually runs in our reviews, including if they are laggy or slow – but in this case, some clips were not an accurate reflection of what this game is like in action, so we replaced those parts and reuploaded a new version of the review. Sorry for both the error and the delay! – Tom M
Bring back bust slider u fuck assholes
The Ares 90 Skell is OP. You can practically one or two hit kill any enemy or boss. However, you have to get the materials, blueprint AND have 100,000 Miranium to get it.
I’m playing through this now and have to say that I’m pretty disappointed and shocked it was given a 9. I’m a Xenoblade super fan so had high hopes for the one entry I had never played before (this game). I booted it up and the first thing I thought was how emotionless the main custom character is. I love the main characters from all the other entries because of the voice acting and personalities! The other thing I noticed were the bad visuals. It seems like they took a step back from the other entries. Everything looks flat and devoid of real texture and quality unlike the other entries. Third, some others mention it, but the music is downright bad (at least in the places I’ve seen 8 hours in). The Xenoblade music is some of the greatest, if not the greatest, in all of gaming so I’m really disappointed so far. Personally, I’d give it a 6 or 7 right now but I’m trying to give it its due.
Side note – anyone look straight up when in the field, rotate the camera, and notice how the clouds move with the camera? It’s such a stupid visual bug they should have caught. Take a look when you play!
so what is the best xenoblade game???
So I have only played the Switch versions for 2 other games… I have around 350 hours on Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition and 399 hours on Xenoblade Chronicles 3… Just started playing Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition and find it boring already while only about 4 hours into the game. Maybe I'm just burned out or something? But it really doesn't feel like a Xenoblade game to me. And after putting in so many hours on the other two games, the combat controls seem weird and or clunky? Like, it feels as if XB3 had much better combat button mechanics for some reason. I'm not a fan of illusionary options, and right from the beginning I am given one… Why even allow someone to refuse if the game can't handle the rejection? Want to be a BLADE? No. Ok, want to be a BLADE? No. Ok, want to infinty and beyond if you keep saying no. Those types of game mechanics are dumb.
I am struggling to find the 'want' to play this game, unlike the other two, which I couldn't stop once I started. Maybe I am just burned out of the series? Even if it doesn't feel like a Xenoblade game, I thought it would pull me into it… but no, it hasn't.
Is this game really that well regarded? Where am I going wrong? What am I missing?
Im so glad this wonderful game isn't left to rot on the Wii U
Damn.. another reviewer quoting the game's subpar story. The only reason Im interested in Chronicles X is because I need to scratch that Xenogears itch (spectacular story) and I had finished XB1 and tbh the story isn't that great despite having a strong gameplay
This game is amazing. I love that it can take you 20+ hours before you see your first skell. You really need to work for it, but once you get it, it feels like a true reward. It's also a huge upgrade in battle power. You can basically oneshot things you had to fiercely battle on foot.
Furthermore, that's not where it stops. Then there's special skells you need to work your way up to, that are even more impressive battlewise, and then there's a third level of skells that you can deck out pretty much how you like with different kinds of weaponsystems that should allow you to kill the world bosses endgame.
Then, for those who master the ground game, once you get endgame weapons for your character, there are fight tactics with certain classes that let you outdamage even the best skells.
I had an absolute blast with this game. There's hefty grinding if you want to max out all your stuff (but it's not needed to reach most of the things, only if you want to minmax everything).
I only wished they would've remade the game with some more decent looking anime characters, but it's only a minor gripe for a game I still love to this day, and will replay on a Switch 2 when it comes out.
Amazing game 😍
Never got the chance to play this on wii u. Excited for since we can pilot mecha!
Bought this game instead of AC Shadows. WORTH my money & time.
It's absolutely insane that this game is nine years old. Been playing DE and having a ball. You can't not get sucked in
Meh.
I never finished any of the mainline Xenoblade games. Put about 20 hours in XBC2 and to be honest I don't see a dip in quality of storytelling in X. I honestly think the storytelling and characters in X are better so far. But I guess that's subjective. I'm on Chapter 8.
Needs to be on PC. 😢
Xenogears remake, when?
I'll wait for switch 2 announcement to see if it does any automatic improvements to perfomance and imaging of "older" games. If it does, I'll get this whenever I buy a switch2
I'm not really liking this game. Map design is really weird. There is level 5 and level 15 monsters in same area, and you have sneak behind them or RIP. Some side quests are weird too. Let's say someone gives you level 5 quest, but you have to deal higher level monsters to get there. It doesn't make any sense.
Battles takes forever! I might drop this game. I only played 7 hours but I really hope it's getting better.
The worst thing about xeno games is you can only play them for the first time once. I can't wait to dig into this one!
I played this on WiiU. Story was really cringe and only 1 town. Open world was cool for 3 biomes. Once I got the skell and got to the ice biome I realized I had seen everything I cared about from the game and bounced off. There's just nothing to look forward to after you get the skell. All thats left is poor story and 2 perilous biomes (ice and lava). It's easy to Youtube the ending.
This is the type of update we need for BloodBorne! 😭

Game is ass. Looks like a PS2 game and runs like one too.
tab targeting MMO combat in 2025 with janky animations and shitty performance? No. Just no. It was good 10 years ago but i ain't paying 60 € for old shit that still looks and plays like old shit.
