You are wrong about people not being able to reverse engineer a Tesla from 5000 years ago. 1st, electric vehicles are simpler than internal combustion. 2, if you took a person from 5000 or 100k years ago and put them in kindergarten through grade 12, they would likely do better than most people today. To make my point, 'feeble minded' people living in modern cities know what a horse shoe is. Such a simple thing, made from a single component. Yet if your airplane crashed in the mountains, you could not repair the craft or so much as make another vehicle out of the scrap. if dropped off into the bush, you could not so much as figure out how to make a single horseshoe from naturally available materials. They could 5000 years ago tho. They could grab wild animals and put them to work, domestic or not. If I had to take an educated guess about reverse engineering, we can and have been able to reverse engineer anything for as long as we had writing. I took apart a lawnmower engine as a kid well before i actually understood the finer points of chemical combustion works, is made or how piezo electric effect can generate spark to ignite it. Let alone really understand what is going on with randomly found magnetite, and how to spin it on a wheel close to wound copper line to generate useful AC current, or lemon juice in jars to make dc current. You would die thousands of times over before finishing such learning. Hence the ability to write and draw it what permits reverse engineering of anything, and reduces the time it takes to make a simple horseshoe from nature, from a lifetime, to an afternoon.
