The Outer Worlds REVIEW – The Fallout Styled Game We Never Got

playing in 2024 i found it hard at times, and gunplay feels great.

I see two great flaws in this game. It gets repetitive, and the plot barely branches.

Monarch drags on too long, Roseway it just Emerald Vale all over again. Apart from shooting things and talking to people, you can't really do much.

New Vegas has vaults, unique shopkeepers, interesting intricate political contexts and DLCs to spice things up. This game lacks side content unfortunately.

Peril on Gorgon got a great tone and you unravel a conspiracy accross Halcyon, even with a predictable plot. Murder on Eridanos is amazing in how over the top cliché it is.

With better pacing and some more side content, TOO2 could be really really good. The setting is beautiful, strange and horrifying at the same time.

I absolutely love this game . I tried to get into the older Bethesda titles like fallout 3, nv and the older elder scrolls games and despite how great of a game they were , I just could not finish them as the gunplay/action was just too clunky for me . Yes I know they’re rpgs first , and they are great! But the controls just broke it for me , I might suck it up and just push through as I rly love those games

This is NOT the fallout game we've been waiting for. The world is dead. Nothing felt right. Every single quest, there were things I wanted to do, wanted to matter to the quest, that were just impossible. The single player questline is acceptable, but that's not what a fallout game is. A fallout game is a game you can get lost in. Just like the elder scrolls games, you might start a questline and then distracted and spend 2 hours experiencing an entertaining string of sidequests with interesting characters and places.

This game misses the one thing the most great games have in common. And that is developers dedicating time to making things that most players will never see. It's mudcrab merchant from morrowind. It's the rodents of unusual size cave in New Vegas. It's the countless little details that make breath of the wild such a good game. And yes, it's the fact that horse testicles hang higher or lower depending on the temperature in RDR2. These are the things that make a game great. The little discoveries you make along the way. The attention to details and storytelling that paint the entire game world.

The outer worlds had a passable main campaign, but the magic that would have made it a great game? They needed at least another year or so to pull that off. It was such a disappointment. I've replayed New Vegas over a dozen times. I've played this game once. And I even forgot it existed, for years by this point. So much potential. So much wasted. And be honest… After beating the game the first time, how many times have you replayed it since? Not while streaming or making youtube videos, but just you alone, and only for the fun of it. I bet it wasn't very many at all…

This review doesn't even come close to describing the game I played. So underwhelming, so much wasted potential, so much hype for something that came out feeling rushed, lacking key features, having the worst writing out of any Obsidian game I have ever played, a complete lack of variety when it comes to weapon and armor choices, the most basic crafting system out of any game in this style, horrible AI, childish dumb quests throughout, stale bland attempts at comedy that felt immature in a dark and mature setting that didnt make much sense, like dark comedy trying to meld with sunshine, this is in no way the Fallout game we have been waiting for, hell Fallout 4 is 100 times better and thats not saying Fallout 4 is any good, hell even Fallout 76 has turned out to be a better game then this. 3/10

I finished this game a few weeks ago it's a great game. The only thing I have gripes with is the gun play which is like new vegas (and in my humble opinion that's not a compliment). And the story is a bit lack luster not bad just nothing special. And the basic enemy AI. This game feels like a smaller, more polished new vegas (which in my opinion is very high praise). Better map, more focused gameplay and best of all it doesn't crash every 2 hours.

Just a reminder that everyone's view is just different and nothing is guaranteed. The reviews i trust all say this was great, but i found it as a one-time play. I'd give it a 6.5/10 to be honest

Well this didn't age well.

Please help! So I have over 170 heavy ammo in my inventory but it wont let me reload my shotgun or machine guns. It says I have 0 ammo in my guns but I've picked up so much heavy ammo it's in my inventory. Why tf cant I reload is this a glitch? How do i use the ammo i have? Why is my shotgun saying i have no ammo but my inventory is saying i have 200 plus shotgun shells and heavy ammo? Someone please help me

This game wasn't all that great. I think most of the good reviews and raves were from pisses off 76 owners.

I hate to say this as I love fallout and elder scrolls but I find this game extremely boring and the characters a little flat, bedsides a few like Pavati

I don't have many complaints with this game except for maybe one: For an RPG, it feels short. I've heard people beat this game in like 25 to 30 hours, which I feel is too short when you compare it to, say, Skyrim or The Witcher.

That's just me, though. It felt too short. Obviously mods will extend its life cycle indefinitely.

love it and hate it, so damn slow, the writing sucked and it was good. They need to have it so we talk back, choosing our voice. This bs reading shit gets boring without real interaction. They do repeat the conversation. But I do agree that the companions, it was good for the most part. The game is slow, and it could be quick. Love where it is going. I'm bored half the time, but it's something I'd love to see in a rebooted fallout. Weird though, because i loved fallout back in the day and skyrim, I'm now bored. They need to take from the best first person shooters and the best of rpg. I am disappointed and I loved it. Witcher bugs the fuck out of me and I have spent months trying to like it, i like it but it's just so forced

Outerworlds was a solid 5/10. I’m sorry, i was a long time obsidion fan. I was a fan of the ORIGINAL fallout game. I was a fan and disliked fallout 4 and hated fallout 76. But this game was below Fallout 4 in everyway. The story, the script, the characters, the different locations, the theme, the endgame, the activities, the soundtrack, the everything, even the weapons, armor, and sadly the final piece. No one is saying anything because they want Obsidion to be the good guys here, they want to say “this game was better than anything bethesda put out” while using fallout 76 as an example which we all know is bad but lets be real. This game didn’t leave a good taste after finishing right? Like it was empty. I don’t see how anyone can finish this game and say “dang, that was awesome. Loved the part when we went into that prison. But my favorite part was when i…” or “god, this character is so cool” when we talk about how boring these unoriginal companions can be. Every rpg or group of characters has this. You have the innocent female character, the badass religious guy, the rich girl who wants to be a badass, the newbie, the mercenary, and the silent non-human ally. Oh and lets not forget the main issue with fallout 4 about how we are given the illusion of choice and that they forced us to agree that the institute and brotherhood of steel are bad guys while the minutemen and railroad are the good guys… but who the hell did we choose for the out worlds? The good guy scientist that saved us and out colony or the bad rich people board that their political push is basically the government. Oh boy, lets not forget the whole story is just you being told to do things for the board or for the scientist. That’s the whole game.

Fallout 4 a dissapointment? No your a disappointment for caving and changing your opinion just cause fans bitched and cried about not liking it so u followed them. WEAK.

I was really hoping for more weapons, and throwables. Along with things like rings and other clothing options.
